Marco Polo 2011

The hotel has seen better days and its cost-cutting measures were obvious – from the rough toilet paper to the missing hand towels, complimentary bottled water and newspaper. Some of the marble bathroom tiles were pockmarked, and the lavatory had a crack. When the hot water was turned on, the shower pipes vibrated violently, which caused the light over the tub to turn off by itself. There is no free wifi access – not even in the dining room or lobby. Internet wifi access costs P538 for 24 hours and P264 for an hour.

On the plus side, the hotel has commenced refurbishing at the 4th floor. More importantly, it has maintained the quality of its service (except perhaps the doorman). Our requests for towels and ice cubes were promptly attended to. Front desk profusely apologized for the shortcomings, and all over you can sense that the staff are eager to please their guests, especially the staff at Cafe Marco. As to the doorman. I travelled with a small child, so I expected the doorman to be attentive and hold the door for us. He failed on three occasions.

only 5 Star Hotel in Davao City

very nice since this is the only 5 star rated hotel in Davao City. The Marco Polo Hotel is the flagship hotel of the Marco Polo Group in Davao City and the location of the Hotel is in the Downtown area, just beside the Aldevinco Shopping Arcade, some nearby fruit stalld and restaurants like chippens (see my separate tips) and across the famed Ateneo de Davao Campus. The accomodations and amenities here in Marco Polo Hotel can be described as luxurious as befitting a 5 star hotel with big and spacious rooms, several good restaurants and the famed eagles bar near the entrance and the best deal here is that there is a nearby taxi stand just beside the entrance to the hotel that you can hire to let you travel everywhere. the hotel is about a 20 minute drive away from the airport.

Unique Quality: the rooms are huge and spacious (see my pictures) and the assorted restaurants in the Complex have excellent service at food (although they are on the high side but again this is a 5 star hotel right). The swimming pool boasts of a pool bar and magnificent views of Mount Apo. other facilities include: Air-Conditioning, Satellite TV, Telephone,Internet Access (On Request), Minibar, Tea & Coffee Making Facilities, Hairdryer, Room Safe, Room Service, Sitting Area, Non-Smoking Rooms Available. Standard Room: Standard Rooms 32 sqm, located on the 4th-10th floors with city views. They are fitted with a queen size bed or single beds. Bathrooms have a bathtub with an overhead shower.

average price a night here is 200 US Dollars if a foreigner and 120 US Dollars if a balikbayan or a local.

Good service

The service was exceptional. On our third day, we dropped off our clothes at a nearby laundry. As we had to depart for out of town early on the fourth day and expected to be back after dinner, the concierge picked up our clothes from the laundry and dropped them off at our room.

Concierge also made calls for us to a famous Chinese restaurant (it was closed on New Year’s Day) and informed us of church schedules.

Marco Polo Davao - Leaves Much to be Desired

If you are accustom to staying in a Marco Polo Hotel you will most likely be disappointed in the Davao Hotel. Look closely and you will see it has a tired and worn look. The staff as related to management is poor. The service staff is good. Restaurants certainly over priced for what you get.

Unique Quality: I cannot think of one thing unique or great about this hotel. You certainly do not get what you pay for.

More about Marco Polo Hotel Davao

Davao's top accommodation

by elpescador6 about Marco Polo Davao

When staying at Marco Polo Davao, make sure that you make an advance booking and always ask for their business travellers package or any promo that's available at the time of the booking. The good thing about this hotel is that the staff are courteous and very helpful. If you need anything do not hesitate to ask the concierge for help.
From the airport, the hotel has a shuttle van to bring their guests to the hotel. Once your in the hotel, there are 3 outlets where you can dine (Cafe Marco, Lotus Court and the Lobby lounge). My personal favorite would be the Cafe Marco for they have a number of amazing dishes on their Buffet table. If you want to unwind and go partying at night, make sure that you ask the concierge for advice regarding what type of place you would want to visit. The staff is great.

First class service and accommodation

by KookieDough about Marco Polo Davao

I was absolutely satisfied with our stay at the Marco Polo Davao. All the staff we encountered in the hotel were quick in delivering our requests and they were all pleasant.

First of all, we were allowed early check-in. We arrived at about 10am at Marco Polo Davao. No time was wasted - as soon as we filled out the information sheet at the front desk, we were given our room key and our bags were sent up to the room. This gave us time to rest a bit before going out for lunch and a full afternoon of sightseeing.

We stayed in a deluxe room. Although nothing outstanding with its design, the room was well-maintained and spacious and comes with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was also clean and had the usual toiletries and towel sets for two. Our room had a big window with a nice view of the city.

My husband asked the housekeeping staff to press one of his shirts, but unfortunately wrote the wrong instruction on the laundry service sheet. My husband told the housekeeping staff about it and, without any complaint or hesitation, the housekeeping staff pressed his shirt again and brought it back to our room right away.

I do recommend this hotel to people who would like to really enjoy their trip to Davao City. Its price is higher than most hotels in the area (I think its room rates are almost the same as those of Waterfront Insular Hotel), but it is worth it. What I remember well about the facilities at Marco Polo Davao is the swimming pool. It is particularly stunning in the evening. It has colored lights that change every few minutes.

It was also a delight to hang out at their poolside bar, because the bar attendants were accommodating and pleasant - even while they were mixing drinks for customers.

Marco Polo is Mindanao's finest hotel

by jcrew about Marco Polo Davao

Ive stayed in marco polo several times and i must say that being an international hotel, it is comparable, if not better than other deluxe hotels in manila, such as the Sofitel, Hyatt, etc. Its rooms are for the well-heeled, and the food is great. It has taken great strides in bringing davao to the world, by developing local cuisine. it has a great view of MT. Apo on one side, and a magnificent view and sunrise to the east. its perfect. Great fitness center and sauna. Cafe Marco has one of the country's finest breakfast buffets. Its proximity to the famous aldevinco shopping center and madrazzo fruit stands makes it an ideal location.
