This may have been my worst overall resort/hotel experience ever. The problem is the cost of this resort compared to what you get. The cheapest rooms are 5,600PHP. In the Philippines you can get a 4 star accomodations for that price. I don't complain if you pay cheap and get cheap but here you pay 4 star prices and get 2 star accomodations. Their website says they're 5 star but this is a serious exaggeration. There are elements of 3 star in some of the outside appearance of the place. But overall it's a 2.

    Service:

    Pro -The service was friendly
    Con - not knowledgable

    Room:

Pro - Balcony and view were nice. A/C worked (barely)

Con -Sheets were quite old and had stains. Counter in bathroom had stains and was not clean. Taps leaked, toilet was so small it felt like I was potty training, warnings on the wall of sudden changes in water temperature that may burn you. Bathtub was dirty and had stains, I don't want to know what. TV had about 10 stations (mostly chinese).

    Location:

Pro - 2min walk from the sea, unfortunately there was a typhoon as well the weekend we went so the sea was too rough and dirty to go in. Also only about 15/20min from the airport (there's a hotel shuttle that runs a couple times a day.)

Con - There is nothing outside the resort. Laoag and all other nearby towns are 45min to an hour plus away.

    Amenities:

Pro - The sand dunes. This was our only redeeming experience here. Strangely there is also an olympic style swimming pool that is very nice.

Con - So much false advertising, of all the activities/facilities they list there are few that are actually available. The following no longer exist (as of Aug 2011): Spa, video game arcade, go karts, beauty salon. Pretty much everything shuts down if it rains as well. There were no ATV's or jeeps available when we arrived either since they were out of gas and apparently there is no gas delivery on Sundays. We only managed to see the sand dunes because of someone who was there who does his own sand dune tours who had a jeep.

    Food:

Pro - You are able to bring your own food to the resort.

Con - If you decide to eat the food here keep expectations very low, patience high and bring a lot of cash (it's expensive).

Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel...

by D._Pepper

Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel and Casino.
I took the package which came out to about US$120, inclusive of roundtrip airfare to and from Manila, two nights of de luxe room accomodations, buffet breakfast for two days, and one guided tour of either Vigan or Pagudpud. Not bad, and well worth the cost. The architecture is great! The fun activities, like all terrain vehicle rentals and archery range. And the friendly service! The hotel is right at the center of the Ilocos region, within easy driving distance of other must-see destinations in that area.

Hotel By The Sand Dunes

by bike_packer about Fort Ilocandia

The Best hotel in Laoag in terms of facilities but located far from the city center, Fort Ilocandia was built purposely in the early '80s by Marcos in time for one of his daughters grand wedding - obviously for guests' accomodation. The buildings (including the 2 U-shaped buildings for accomodation) are 2-storey high and are built of Ilocos bricks of local architecture.

With the opening of The Laoag International Airport, Ilocos Region now has a steady flow of foreign tourists, mostly Chinese, all year round and Fort Ilocandia is the place to stay on package tours offered. So it is no wonder to find more Chinese here staying than locals. Another big come-on is the hotel's Casino. We only did a day-tour around the place. There's an olympic size swimming pool unto the wide beachfront - a good place to watch the sunset.

The hotel garden and open areas are planted with trees and plants and are well-maintained covering the original barren desert-like landscape.

the best places you can stay... around this place!

Fort Ilocandia is the only first class accommodation in Laoag and is located about 9km. from the center of the town, on the coast. This is a very impressive resort, situated on 77 hectares of land and featuring traditional Spaniard architecture styles. The ground are beautifully landscaped and there are branches of Casino Filipino in the area. The resort features an 18-hole golf course, 3 swimming pools (one is Olympic size), private beaches, horseback riding, tennis, paintball, a children’s playground and a gym. There are wide varieties of restaurants featuring Chinese; Japanese and grill specialties that are famous like us Filipinos.

There are a number of popular beaches in the province, including Currimao, La Paz, Seksi Beach, Pagudpud, the Saud Beach, and of course the Fort Ilocandia beach.

Rustic palace in the north

by Yla about Fort Ilocandia Resort

Fort Ilocandia Resort now managed by Jimei, Inc is fantastically maintained in its old, rustic charm. Front office customer service was ok but housekeeping and porter service was exemplary! May help if staff would smile more often. Highly recommended hotel/resort. If not of the other great places to see in Ilocos, activities is the resort is sufficient to occupy one's 3-day vacation. ... great pool area and was especially ecstatic when i saw the 50-meter olympic size pool. great chance to work out as i strongly prefer swimming as my cardio-work-out. Beach was great and we were there almost the whole night enjoying the full moon, the fine gray sand and chasing waves. Sand bikes are also available but not sure if with cost. Kids will love the wide open spaces to play and romp around.

Laoag's first class accomodation

by zoe_girl18 about fort Ilocandia

Fort Ilocandia is indeed the best accomodation in the city of Laoag.
It is the only five star hotel/resort in Northern Luzon. A Spanish Moroccan inspired villa, the resort is complete with facilities and luxuriously designed to provide absolute satisfaction for the tourists. Equipped with 280 rooms, each offering you a panoramic view of the resort. With 24 hour services to attend to your every need, making your stay plesant and pleasurable.
Several tourists, mostly coming from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China come here to play and the casino and in it's 18 hole golf course.
We enjoyed our stay here because the service and facilities are really first class. Their breakfast buffet is also very nice. The rooms are spacious and the beds are soft and clean. > The Casino filipino - is open 24 hours, assisted by multi-lingual attendants.

>Dining- Feast from our four food outlets serving Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Cantonese, Japanese and Continental cuisine. Courtyard Cafe offers fancy sweets and tempting pastries for your indulgence.

> Other activities & ammenities to enjoy: Horse backriding , a swimming pool, driving range, hotair balloon, shooting, paitball, fishing, archery and all terrain vehicle.

Near a Bus Station

by yellowbell about La Elliana Hotel

Spacious, clean and affordable room but when I was there, it was being renovated.

The room is cheap considering what you can have. Don't forget that Laoag is still a laidback city so there are not too many plush hotels except for the luxurious Fort Ilocandia. Phone can let you call NDD/IDD

Just beside the Autobus station (bus from Manila to Laoag)

Restaurant in the ground floor can cook your food upon your request/order

Try taking the ubiquitous tricycle to McDonald's, where jeeps to tourist spots are stationed.

...and that means none that is "near laoag city airport"!

but yes, get to fort ilocandia as they can fetch you from that airport. and they'll be more than happy to receive you at 9PM (since check-in time is supposed to be 2PM!)

:D

Re: Hotel near laoag city airport??

by backpacker24

Try the hostels and inns around the city. Anyway, it's just about 15 minutes to the airport by jeep or tricycle. Besides, they're much much cheaper than fort ilocandia.

THank you so much. I think I'll try Tiffany Hotel. We are heading to pagudpud in the morning. =)

marcos mausoleum

by eversure

Would anybody know if they are open on Good Friday? We leave Laoag Sat noon. Maybe we could also drop by Sat morning, if they are open. Also, is it near Fort Ilocandia? Thanks for any info.

RE: marcos mausoleum

by asianbelle

Not sure if it's open on Good Friday or Black Saturday. As I recall when we went there (November), the mausoleum was closed but we requested the caretaker to open it for us which he willingly did. The mausoleum is in Batac and not Laoag. Batac is about 30-45mins from Laoag.

RE: RE: marcos mausoleum

by eversure

thanks for that info. And all along I thought the mausoleum was just in laoag. ha ha. there goes my history. I'll have to ask the concierge na lang siguro

Re: marcos mausoleum

by daphiness

Hi! Wondering if the Marcos Mausoleum was open when you visited? Planning to visit on Good Friday this year :)

Thanks

Re: marcos mausoleum

by eversure

Since it was in Batac, we didn't go. We just stayed at Fort Ilocandia. But I asked the concierge at the hotel while we were there and they said it was closed that day.

laoag seashore

by mikmat_98

Is there a good seashore in laoag? I would like to lay on the beach for one week drinking fruit juice and doing nothing, would you recommend this place?
Thank you all for the attention!
MERRY X'MAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

RE: laoag seashore

by asianbelle

Fort Ilocandia is an upscale hotel in Laoag near the beach. Why not explore Pagudpud, it's 2-2.5 hours drive from Laoag.

RE: laoag seashore

by ino_hsb

Pagudpud will be your best bet.
