Boracay's Best Kept Secret

We originally wanted to rent a villa in Boracay. We tried contacting SPR Boracay Realty for months and got no reply from them. (Btw, we also went to their office and they were totally useless). After doing my research on the net, I found this nice resort and sent out an email from a link on their website http://bbg.boracayinfo.net/ . To my surprise, the owner, Patrick, replied right away and gave us a reasonable monthly rate. Patrick was pretty straightforward and very easy to deal with. We sent the downpayment to his bank and paid the balance when we arrived at the resort. Boracay Butterfly Garden was exactly as described by Patrick and as shown in the pictures on the website. We had the beachfront cottage with the sliding glass doors that gave us magnificent view of the beach and kite-boarders. The bathroom was clean and the bedroom was in good shape. We had a spacious living room and a fully-functional kitchen. On a sunny day, it was nice to just lay on their lawn and get the cool breeze from the sea. It never felt hot in there because the wind was always blowing. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay at Boracay Butterfly Garden. The service was personalized by the owner and the accommodation was very comfortable.

where can we get low price activities around boracay? thanks..

As soon as you set foot on the white beach, you'll be approached by so many "agents"/touts. By experience, I observed that the price quotations for watersports and land activities would vary but would only have a difference of P50-100, more or less. The pricing also depends on whether you're there during peak season or low season. I suggest you canvass first before grabbing the first offer. It would also be better if you go over the Boracay tips of VTers so you'll have an idea of prevailing rates.

Like Cyndy said, you will constantly get approached by vendors selling tours and activities of all kinds. I found most fairly cheap, but 'cheap' is subjective. Almost all the vendors will haggle with you.
The beach itself is free and is a lot of fun, but you can find peaceful areas too. We were just there in April and loved it.
enjoy

dont compromise safety for a cheap price, especially where equipment is not up to par...some of the fly by night cheap stuff on Boracay has safety issues as well...

Travel Tips for Boracay Island

Bargain, Bargain, Bargain

by waoza

There are many people on the beach trying to sell water activities. Make sure that you bring the price as low as you can and also request to have more time alotted to the activity. For example, for a 3 hour island hopping tour quoted at 1500 pesos, we got it down to 1000 pesos for 4 hours (This price was split among 5 people)!

Overcrowding

by sirenna

Think carefully about the time of year that you choose to visit, as the island offers quite different experiences from month to month. If crowds are not your scene, avoid march and April, especially Easter / holy week, which is the busiest, most hectic time of year. The music from the various events at station 1 and 2 can be heard from one end of the beach to the other! Great for party people, but not if you are looking for rest and relaxation.

Sunblock, Sunblock, and oh, Sunblock!

by syllybabe

Several swimsuits...unless you plan on going skinny dipping all the time. A lot of tank tops and tees and shorts, a sarong (or several), sandals, flip-flops, sneakers (if you like to jog in the morning) Sunblock!!!
Allergy meds and insect repellant...actually everything you need you can buy on the island...just a bit more expensive. Digital camera with a lot of CF cards and your charger. Several good books or even trashy novels ;-)

Carabao Island (Isla de Carabao)

by francis0927

Somebody earlier posted a picture of a beach facing Carabao Island. So why not go to Carabao Island? The beach is as beautiful as Boracay's and sand as fine minus the crowd. They say this is how Boracay looks several decades ago when it was still under developed.

Though you might find some debris on the beach (since it is not maintained unlike Boracay) it is still as beautiful.

Souvenir

by namiewa

if you’re into big and great souvenir there in Boracay sidewalk can make you choice what you want. If you like to have a boat which is like that in the picture? Then ask for it but make sure you know how to deal with those people because if they know that you are foreigner they’ll going to sell you much. Actually, lots of souvenir been displayed in the sidewalk so just keep choosing those nice and good stuff. just take a peek!
