Accommodations on a Budget
by iris_e about Boracay Gold Crowne
I stayed here for 2 nights. The location is pretty good since it's in Station 1 where there's less human traffic and there's more serenity for me to take in the beauty of nature. The accommodation includes daily breakfast (American Continental or Filipino). Complimentary drinks are given at arrival. The cost? It's much cheaper than the other resorts at Station 1, but of course, amenities are limited. They don't have a safety deposit box for valuables inside the rooms. The rooms are basic (with cable TV and refrigerator). What's good about it is its location (beach front entrance/restaurant). The staff in this resort are all friendly and helpful. It's not a five star hotel service but very acceptable. Although its about 10-15 minutes walk to the various souvenir stalls, mall and restaurants of Station 2, you get more privacy in this area.
Philippine Airlines offers packages that include airfare, transfers and accommodations in various hotels depending on your budget. One of the hotels include Boracay Gold Crowne. For three persons, it costs about PHP20,000 as of my latest visit. The view while eating breakfast is great! You're dining right infront of the beach! what more can you ask? Like I mentioned, facilities are basic. There's no swimming pool or any other perks. However, I like the feel of its homey ambiance and atmosphere.
A New Hotel is Rising
by asianbelle about Astoria Boracay
This hotel opened in June 2010. Actually, re-opened is a more appropriate term as it used to be Boracay Gold Crowne Hotel, but after it was acquired by RCI, it underwent extensive renovation and now goes by the name Astoria Boracay.
Accommodation is based on time-share membership, although it is also open to non-RCI members at higher rack rates.
It has cozy (i.e. homey) ambiance as the entire hotel was done in white with lazy swings and loungers in the garden near the pool. The service is prompt and the staff were helpful (e.g. the lifeguard not only supervises the guests in the pool, he also shares swimming tips and techniques).
There is also an in-house restaurant that serves buffet breakfast in the hotel lobby, and buffet dinner at the beachfront. The menu selection wasn't special though.
We were fortunate to be given a room on the ground floor that directly opens to the pool. The downside though is, when we failed to draw the curtains properly, we become a "fish in an aquarium" to the outside world. A practice I found a novelty is the washing of footwear before entering the hotel compound. A bowl of water with a native ladle (coconut shell with bamboo sticks for handle) is placed at the entrance to let guests get rid of sands in their shoes/slippers.
Boat to Boracay Island
by limledi
There are three boat stations on White Beach for boats to and from Caticlan: Boat Station 1 at the Boracay Gold Crowne Club, Boat Station 2 at the Boracay Regency Beach Resort and Boat Station 3 at the Sulu Bar. From June to September, during the south-west monsoons (habagat), the sea on the west side of Boracay can grow too rough for outriggers. They then have to leave from Tabon (to the east of Caticlan) instead of from Caticlan itself, and drop anchor on the east coast in the bay near the Dead Forest, or near Bulabog, where there are probably tricycles already waiting. The crossing takes 30 minutes and costs P18.
Many boats cruise along White Beach heading for Caticlan; just wait at one of the boat stations if you want to go there. The first boat comes along between about 5:30 and 6am.
