Boracay is NOT "Bora"
by CatBurglar
In recent years, certain city socialites have begun calling the island "Bora".
DON'T!
Firstly, the people of Boracay really don't like it. Respect them, they are proud of their name.
And second, there already is an island called Bora - it's in Polynesia, so it is foolish to rename Boracay after another existing place.
"Bora" is not cool! You sound like a poser!
San Miguel Beer
by sirenna
San Miguel is the most popular beer in the Philippines - its on sale everywhere. This is not a bad tasting beer considering how cheap it is (usually less than 50 pesos). San Mig Light is also available in most bars - this is actually stronger than regular San Miguel but lower in calories (genius!). Other beers you might come across are San Miguel Super Dry, Blue Ice, Cerveza Negra and Red Horse. Beware of the last one as it produces fierce hangovers!
Snorkelling - Feed the Fishes
by bike_packer
There are many snorkelling sites around Boracay Island but where we love most is the coral reef at the northeast coast of the island at Yapak. The place eventually becomes full of boats bringing divers as they come and go for an average of 1 hour snorkel activities all day long. The more the merrier, I feel, with this kind of activity.
What makes snorkeliing here a hit? Our tour guide advised us to bring bread to feed the fishes. We didnt know until we were on it that the fishes would have a bite of that bread right upon releasing them in your hand. (It is a scary feeling to hold on anticipating the fishes would bite your fingers). Surely, it was a very close encounter with these rainbow-colored tropical fishes. We brought our own gears but these could be rented from the boat operators at about P100 per set. Also, for the not-so-athletic bodies, wearing a life vest would be a plus.
Barazula Beach
by sirenna
This is a tiny little beach at the South end of the island. Not usually frequented by daytrippers, it's a nice place to go for a picnic. There are no bars, restaurants or facilities there - even the little hut in the picture doesn't exist any more. Bring everything you need, and be sure to take all your trash home with you. There is some pretty good snorkeling in this area too.
UPDATE - this area has sadly (and some would say illegally) been privatised.
