A new Hideout

If you want a nice resort away from the crowded and busy white beach, then consider staying at Microtel. It has hotel facility, clean rooms, nice swimming pool, spacious lobby and a restobar. If you walk on the beach to station 2, where most restos and shops are, then probably it would take around 30minutes or so... It's a good exercise yet if you get tired of too much walking, the Microtel offers a free shuttle service on scheduled basis down to D'Mall...

Unique Quality: The beachfront sand is not that powdery as in Station 1, but the place is quiet great, has it's own privacy and a nice pool...

Last boat trip from Caticlan to Boracay

by mhaieleighnne

Hi!

I just realized that flight for Kalibo is past 5pm. If I will arrive Caticlan 6:30-7pm, can I still catch a boat trip or do i have to rent an entire boat. I don't think I have a budget for the latter option since I will be travelling alone so I really need your help.

Thanks in advance!

Erratum: I will probably be in Caticlan around 8pm.

That boat charter rate was P1,500 as of my latest trip to Boracay (March 2010). But worry not because according to a friend, the last trip is still at/about 10pm, so you can still catch a boatride to Boracay.

Whew! thanks! I am also thinking of booking a transfer with Southwest tour (Thanks, Sirena for the suggestion!) to be extra sure since I will be travelling solo.

Thanks again to all your help! :)

Travel Tips for Boracay Island

Variety of things of Boracay

by Ksuter

The White Beach and the friendly people would have to be my favourite things. It is a beautiful beach/ Likely sitting on the beach over dinner, watching a beautiful sunset

There's always something to do...

There's always something to do or watch in Boracay. This is the ultimate paradise in the Philippines. I golfed, scuba dived, danced, ate and enjoyed this place!
The nice thing is that you won't meet your neighbour on the beach. There's a mix of people from all over the world, even though this is not a big island.

Beach wear is all u need, + mosquito repellent

If you plan on doing some shopping, pack light and have some empty room in your bag for the items you plan on buying on the island. I dont recommend doing too much shopping on Boracay, you can find a better selection of stuff at the SM Mall in Makati Manila, and for much cheaper. Bring sandals / slippers. Standard shoes & socks not needed. You can also buy your footwear there at the island. I recommend getting them beforehand and wearing them on arrival, because you will fly into the island and most likely take a ferry to your spot. The ferry lands at one of several beach landings, and the plank leads right into the water. I made the mistake of wearing brand new tennis shoes & socks, only to take them off upon landing because I didnt want to get them wet from the knee-deep water. Water was wonderful though

Beat the 50+20 pesos Environmental & Terminal Fee

by edwinic

It seems to me that the entire Boracay manager wish to do is to drain us of our hard-earned money. From environmental fee, to terminal fee down to the snorkeling fee, hundred of thousands of pesos are trickling to their ‘pocket’

Well last May 2007 I run around the island and ended up not paying the environmental and terminal fee, and here’s how;

From Caticlan Port I took a motorized banca to Hambil, Carabao Island. It was a 45 minute ride and cost 60 pesos. I went to Carabao Island for a Nostalgia visit. In the past, I was able to go there from Tablas Island of Romblon.

With the popularity of Boracay, Carabao Island is now very accessible as many of its resident work in Boracay.

I stayed there for a day and the next morning took the same boat that will take some people to Boracay.

It feels good to enter Boracay without the usual hassle of paying the 90 pesos fee – and I keep sneering at the direction of Caticlan port.

Handmade Crafts

by j_roadrunner about Souvenir Stalls

Boracay is a great place to shop for locally made arts and crafts. There are many little shops and stalls along the beach selling a wide variety of wares, such as bags, carvings, jewellry and paintings. Shop in the Talipapa (market) to get the best prices - the shops in the mall tend to be more expensive. You can usually haggle the price too.
