Our stay here has pros and cons.
* Pros - Great location because it is a beach front and good service provided by the staff. No doubts about it.
* Cons - It is just beside Astoria and in front it has a place for party. During the night, you cannot sleep well because of loud music from the party. It will last until 1:00 am. The A/C in the room we stayed in was not functioning well. Rooms will only be cleaned if you requested for it. Lastly, the bed was not comfortable. You can feel the springs inside of it.
--- How to get there---
From the port, ride a tricycle. There are 2 types of tricycle fares. One is special trip, it will cost 50-100 pesos per trip. If there's a special trip, there is a regular trip... it will cost you 20 pesos each. If you are not in a hurry, you may want to wait for other people to ride with you. Tell the driver to drop you off to RCBC bank.
Unique Quality: We stayed on the 2nd floor just above the Yellow Cab Pizza store. From the veranda, you have a good view of the beach.
I believe they have non beach front rooms. You may request for it if you wanted to have a goodnight sleep. It's much cheaper as well.

I chose this hotel because I heard great reviews for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and beachfront views. It's a small family owned hotel. Located in Station 1, very close to station 2. The bars are just a few steps away so it could be a hassle when you want to sleep well. For me, I thought it was great that it's on the middle of everything. Most nights i just hung out in the balcony from where I could watch a fire dance show while listening to a live band. There is a Yelllow Cab Pizza under our floor which is depending on your taste could be a good or bad thing. It's about 15 min walk to Talipapa market. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast. But there's a lot of good restaurants nearby.

After much deliberation we`ve decided to make a return trip to Boracay after a nine year absence, I can hardly believe its been that long!
Anyways, after finding that the hotel we used to love near Station 3 is no more we are looking for a family friendly place with a pool. It can be located anywhere as long as its fairly quiet at night so beachfront is not so important, a few minutes walk makes no difference.
One place that looks suitable is the Tonglen Resort. Has anyone stayed there recently or know if it would be okay for 2 families with kids aged between 2 and 10 years?
Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.
do you really need a pool, as you limit your choices that way...
We would prefer a pool for the kids. Generally there`s a bit more shade, going in late March its going to be pretty hot on the beach, especially coming from the UK.
I wouldnt rule out a non pool hotel if it was suitable though for families with kids.
Lots of changes in the 9 years since you were last here. The central part of the island is very crowded these says and there are lots of noisy bars. Avoiding main road accommodation is also recommended due to traffic and pollution.
The station 3 area is still pretty quiet and pleasant, and one affordable place with a pool is Villa Camilla.
Villa Camilla does have a pool....but this is where compromise comes in to get a pool. First the pool is small and check to see if operational or not, second the hotel is on the beach, but its overprices...rooms have not been kept up, a bit worn. You can do better with a better atmosphere at Blue Mango next door ,newer, family run..no pool..but I am sure you can use the pool at Villa Camilla if you buy drinks. Ocean club up the path nearby may also allow you if you spend money. The pool requirement really limits your hotel choices in terms of budget, location, customer service etc....thank you..
Thanks for the replies. A bit more searching is probably needed and maybe a bit more added to the budget. I realised its got more built up since we last went which is why we prefer to stay near station 3.
Lots of new hotels have sprouted within the last 2-4 years. I believe Boracay Regency is still there - i don't have the phone#. All 18 of us (kids to seniors)stayed in the hotel for 4 days/5nights and we really enjoyed it. The room rate included a buffett breakfast, there are 2-3 swimming pools; the rooms were spacious, service very good, it's in station 2 but it has its own beach area yet all the activities (scuba diving, snorkeling, etc) areso accessible. If you don't want to eat at their restaurants, you may just walk and at the nearby clean places to eat.
Regency just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and someone way back coined the nickname the "concrete cancer"! But bigger doesn't make it better, and it is also a bit of a con to impersonate an international hotel chain. It's overpriced and the food isn't great. If you want to avoid the most crowded area, this hotel isn't for you.

We`ve booked Tonglen. Location is where we want & the place looks quite tidy. I`m not sure I`m looking forward to seeing all the development or not though, I`m sure we`ll have a great time.

It's a nice resort and reasonably priced, BUT that area (the nearest part of the beach) is very crowded and developed, which seemed to be what you were trying to avoid. While you are not likely to suffer noise disturbance when you are in your room, it's crowded on the beach in that area. Lots of vendors too.
Boracay is only seven kilometers long and divided into three barangays, or communities. Yapak lies in the north, Balabag in the center and Manoc-Manoc in the south. Within these barangays are smaller villages such as Angol, Manggayad and Bolabog.
Most of the activities are in WHITE BEACH with small resorts and cottages ranging at 300 pesos or $8.00USD but can go as high as $200.USD
Experience native Filipino tribal music, with bongo drums, rain sticks and native instruments! You can often see tribal music at the Plazoleta, and the Red Pirates Pub , near boat station 3, occasionally have jamming sessions in the evening and on full moon nights - you can even bring an instrument & join in.
Diango (pictured), has a small shop at the Plazoleta on White Beach, selling drums, leather bags and other hand-made crafts - stop by for a chat to learn more about tribal music and find out where to watch the next show.
First stop in our island hop tour is the snorkeling area near Crocodile Island, considered as one of the better snorkeling spots in Boracay. This is a 15-minute boat ride away from Bulabog beach, east of Boracay Island.
We had to pay P20 for “snorkeling fee” and rental of snorkeling gear is P100.
I had a blast! I absolutely enjoyed seeing all kinds of fishes around me. It was fun being around these critters during a bread-feeding frenzy. Tickles a bit too.
Did it lessen my fear for open water? – NO! A very important tip is to bring A LOT of bread. Apparently, they also like pandesal in the morning like Filipinos do. :-)
Feelin thirsty after all the diving and snorkelin you've been doing? Fancy a thirst quenching coconut or what we call "buko" juice?...but you thought, "how could i buy one in the middle of the ocean?".....fret not, the Buko man is here!....yes, ever ready to quench your thirst with his fresh buko juice, he paddles from one boat to another selling his specialty!
Outside the talipapa (or market) and D'Mall, there are also other boutiques selling all sorts of things, whether beach-related or not. Many of which are native lamps, bags, and other accessories made from local fabric, shells, and woven from native materials .
Staff are accommodating and friendly that customers will be satisfied.
