Batanes Resort is the accomodation with a view. And what a view it is! Its a government-run place that has 6 cottages with 2 rooms each. The cottages look like Ivatan stone houses. A room can accomodate 3 persons. The rooms were being renovated when we visited but we got to see one of the finished rooms. At the moment only one cottage has airconditioning (who needs them anyway). The Itbayat and Sabtang cottages are the most sought after because of the unobstructed view from within the rooms. So make sure you book these rooms for your visit. The room rates: Fan room - P550 (single), P672 (double), P764 (triple) Aircon room - P800 (single), P900 (double), P1000 (triple)

Shanedel's Inn is run by Shane and Dely Millan whose family live in the premises. There are 14 rooms, half of which is airconditioned. The rooms are pretty basic. There's a queen size bed, a single bed, bathroom (no heater) and electric fan. No tv. No towels. Rooms 12 and 14, located on the 2nd floor, are the best as they look out to Basco Bay and there are windows on 2 sides of the room. The yummy home-cooked meals are served in the garden that looks out to sea. As we were the only guests at that time, we were pampered no end by Dely. Breakfast is ready on the agreed time. I requested for a 'pako' (wild fern) salad and its on the table the next meal. On the day we were to fly out and the flight was canceled, Dely helped to book us on the next flight out. We'd SOS for a tricycle to come pick us up and Dely's off to send someone. Ok, here's the tariff: Fan room - P350/person Aircon room - P750 (single), P1000 (double), P1200 (triple) Meals - P100-120 (breakfast), P100-200 (lunch & dinner) Shanedel's can arrange your Batan island tour, Sabtang island tour and even big game fishing. I was told that the hunky actor Richard Gomez always call on Shanedel's whenever he comes to Batanes for fishing. While I like the newly-renovated rooms at Batanes Resort and the view from the cottages is to die for, I prefer the location of Shanedel's as it's right smack in the center of town. I enjoy the freedom of just walking out the door to make a trip to the shops or walk to the terminal to get a tricy. I definitely recommend staying at Shanedel's. Reception area by livethedream The Ivatan Lodge is another government-run place, located on the 2nd floor of a warehouse-like structure. Lots of rooms on both sides of a long corridor. They have 2 airconditioned rooms. In the ground floor are an assortment of offices and shops. Not a soul was stirring when we visited. Only the security guard was on hand to show us around. I had the impression that Ivatan Lodge is a hohum place. Maybe it will be different during peak season. Here's the usual litany of room rates: Single - P300 Double - P400 Triple - P600 Aircon - P1000 (2 rooms. max of 3 peeps in a room) Family - P750 Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Center of Basco town, Batan IslandDirections: Next door to Shanedel'sOther Contact: ivatanlodge@yahoo.com

If you are staying overnight in Sabtang then consider staying at this place. On the 2nd floor of the Sabtang Nat'l School of Fisheries' home economics building are two 2-bed rooms and one 5-bed room. The rooms are immaculately clean. 1 shared bathroom. Cooking facilities in the ground floor. They have a small corner selling Batanes souvenirs and post cards. Interact with the school kids as they go about their work. Tread carefully, there's a sign there that says "This is an English speaking zone" :-) How much? The usual crisp bed, with private bathroom. They change towels every 2 days, but you could request to have the room clean everyday. They dont have a built in heater but they provide a portable water heater and there's outlet in your room. This lodge have 12 rooms, in twin, and triple sharing accomodation. The staff are accomodating, they have a tv set in the lobby downstair and upstair. But if you opt to have a tv in your own room , you can have it for 250 pesos.
Great view of the sea, It's why it's called the seaside. You can actually see the Lighthouse of Naidi Hills from the balcony. On the strength of recommendations from VT members, we chose this inn. Maybe service has deteriorated with the changing of hands from the mom to the daughter but we were very disappointed. We had to ask for toilet paper. Our towels weren't changed plus the AC in our room conked out. And it wasn't that cheap. Pension Ivatan a few steps doen the road with tv and internet was cheaper.
The only nice thing about booking at Shanedel is their tours. They have a very good tour guide in Manny. Thoroughly enjoyed his anecdotes on local personalitites and local life. Theme: InnPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: 09204470737/ 09198234510

a view of the resort by rebeccadv Crisp, white, clean sheets. Very friendly staff that go out of their way to please (seems to be a general trait of the islanders). 3 of my fellow travellers were from the UK and missed the morning jelly with toast, and were disappointed that none was available...the next morning we were proudly presented with mango and strawberry preserve, that came from the mainland! Rooms are very basic though, as is the case in all other places here.
Great View! The rest of the establishments are in-town and do not command as remarkable a view

This hotel has the BEST view of both hills & sea, just 30 steps down will be the beach. No other hotel can offer a view like this. If you open your window, you'll hear the waves. I would stay there again on my next vacation visit. Hotel is undergoing renovation when we went. Staff are friendly. It's a Php40 tricycle ride from town. We opted to walk to the town once, on a leisure pace and taking a few stops to pose for the camera and it took us abt 25 minutes. Php1,000 per night for a triple sharing room. You can contact them directly for reservations 0927-5829078. Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: 0927-5829078

The Ivatan hospitality and friendliness is legend. At the Batanes Resort, it comes alive and makes your stay trouble-free and more relaxing. This is a bonus for a place that has the best views (right from your cottage windows), great food and easy access to both the country and the town proper. Did I mention cottage? Yes, the resort offers eight two-room cottages, with either a two- or three- bed setting per cottage. All rooms have their own bathrooms and a choice of air conditioning or electric fan (but with the Batanes wind, who needs them?). This is considered the best place to stay at when in Batanes and I would definitely recommend others to consider Batanes Resort before any place else.
For a rustic place such a Batanes, one may not expect much in terms of facilities, or even the basics. But at the Batanes Resort, you can expect 24 hours electricity, flowing water (with shower) and cable TV. It has its own restaurant with a kitchen that serves the native delicacies and tries its best to accomodate guests' culinary requests. You can have your meals inside while singing some Karaoke or al fresco as you savor the view of the see and mountains. Careful, though, it may get chilly sometimes. The resort also has a small souvenir shop. Not fifty steps from the resort is a beach facing the South China Sea. The Resort is actually the only hotel/Inn on Batan Island with this easy an access to a beach. Off to the right is a small picnic area where guests can have fresh seafood grilled or cooked ala "kinilaw". The Batanes Resort staff is the most outstanding characteristic. Headed by Tes, these simple and sincere crew will do everything to make your stay most relaxing and memorable. Did I mention how honest they are?
