Shanedel's Inn: Home away from home

Shanedel's Inn is run by Shane and Dely Millan whose family live in the premises. There are 14 rooms, half of which is airconditioned. The rooms are pretty basic. There's a queen size bed, a single bed, bathroom (no heater) and electric fan. No tv. No towels. Rooms 12 and 14, located on the 2nd floor, are the best as they look out to Basco Bay and there are windows on 2 sides of the room. The yummy home-cooked meals are served in the garden that looks out to sea.

As we were the only guests at that time, we were pampered no end by Dely. Breakfast is ready on the agreed time. I requested for a 'pako' (wild fern) salad and its on the table the next meal. On the day we were to fly out and the flight was canceled, Dely helped to book us on the next flight out. We'd SOS for a tricycle to come pick us up and Dely's off to send someone.

Ok, here's the tariff:
Fan room - P350/person
Aircon room - P750 (single), P1000 (double), P1200 (triple)
Meals - P100-120 (breakfast), P100-200 (lunch & dinner)

Shanedel's can arrange your Batan island tour, Sabtang island tour and even big game fishing. I was told that the hunky actor Richard Gomez always call on Shanedel's whenever he comes to Batanes for fishing.

While I like the newly-renovated rooms at Batanes Resort and the view from the cottages is to die for, I prefer the location of Shanedel's as it's right smack in the center of town. I enjoy the freedom of just walking out the door to make a trip to the shops or walk to the terminal to get a tricy. I definitely recommend staying at Shanedel's.

Contact the owner Dely Millan in the number below

Located in center of town. Feels like home.

Batanes Resort: The Best Ivatan Ambiance

The Ivatan hospitality and friendliness is legend. At the Batanes Resort, it comes alive and makes your stay trouble-free and more relaxing. This is a bonus for a place that has the best views (right from your cottage windows), great food and easy access to both the country and the town proper. Did I mention cottage? Yes, the resort offers eight two-room cottages, with either a two- or three- bed setting per cottage. All rooms have their own bathrooms and a choice of air conditioning or electric fan (but with the Batanes wind, who needs them?). This is considered the best place to stay at when in Batanes and I would definitely recommend others to consider Batanes Resort before any place else.

For a rustic place such a Batanes, one may not expect much in terms of facilities, or even the basics. But at the Batanes Resort, you can expect 24 hours electricity, flowing water (with shower) and cable TV. It has its own restaurant with a kitchen that serves the native delicacies and tries its best to accomodate guests' culinary requests. You can have your meals inside while singing some Karaoke or al fresco as you savor the view of the see and mountains. Careful, though, it may get chilly sometimes. The resort also has a small souvenir shop. Not fifty steps from the resort is a beach facing the South China Sea. The Resort is actually the only hotel/Inn on Batan Island with this easy an access to a beach. Off to the right is a small picnic area where guests can have fresh seafood grilled or cooked ala "kinilaw". The Batanes Resort staff is the most outstanding characteristic. Headed by Tes, these simple and sincere crew will do everything to make your stay most relaxing and memorable. Did I mention how honest they are?

Batanes Resort: Best view of all Accomodations

Crisp, white, clean sheets. Very friendly staff that go out of their way to please (seems to be a general trait of the islanders). 3 of my fellow travellers were from the UK and missed the morning jelly with toast, and were disappointed that none was available...the next morning we were proudly presented with mango and strawberry preserve, that came from the mainland! Rooms are very basic though, as is the case in all other places here.

Great View! The rest of the establishments are in-town and do not command as remarkable a view
