Halaran Plaza Hotel: Central and Convenient

This hotel, located next to the river, has very spacious rooms, with high ceilings, wooden floors and aging heavy wooden furniture. The place is a bit dated, but this adds to it's charm. Our airconditioned room had enormous built in wardrobes - more storage space than there is in my entire home and a bit excessive for the average traveller, to say the least - and I could probably have put all my worldly goods in there!
The bathroom was very large but with a bare, institutional kind of feel to it, and the hot shower was severely lacking in water pressure. Cable TV is also provided, and the room had a balcony overlooking the street.
Beware! When we returned to the hotel after venturing out for something to eat, we found the doors locked. This despite us having told the staff we were going out. It took a good 15 minutes of hammering on the door to wake the staff member who was asleep on a bench in the lobby, wearing headphones. Our complaint to the desk clerk the next morning was met with blank faced indiffference. The traffic noise was also a downside, as the windows are old and let in all the sounds of the city.
But for P850 per night it was a bargain, and not worth complaining too much about. We were quoted P750 for a room without hot water.
