Re: taxi fare

When you walk out of the terminal you ahve a few choices to make regarding taxis
There are the more expensive taxis, with ( from memory) 70 peso flag fall m then the fare to Osmena will be about 200- 250 maximum on the meter, no haggling or hassles required
Alternatively you walk to your right and across the road and up the stairs at the far right of the terminal and there is a taxi queue for the regular white taxis, 30 peso flag fall and , if you can get them to put the meter on will be about 130 to 170 on the meter by the time you get to Osmena. You will have hassles and need to demand the meter is put on, even offer something like 50 pesos over the meter , even when he says he will put the meter on, he often does not when you are in the taxi, just keep insisting, and if he really refuses and you have driven away from the airport, I have opened the door(a little) and said I will keep it open until he turns the meter on. It shows him you are serious abnd he turns the meter on.
Just ignore all the offers for flat 300 pesos to Osmena circle, its a rip off.

Re: taxi fare

I was there last week. There are actually two types of taxi servicing the airport. You have the regular white colored taxi and the yellow colored airport taxi. Airport taxis are a bit expensive. Take the white colored taxi. Don't worry about drivers not using meters or choosing passengers. You have to wait along the taxi passenger lane. Look for the airport security guards, they will provide you a ticket or coupon which states the plate number of the taxi and other details. If you have complaints, you can simply use that coupon and forward it to authorities so they can act on you complaint. It is also now being used in SM City but off course you have to line up and not just take a taxi outside the line. The fare varies depending on traffic conditions. If you arrive in Cebu during weekends or worst a weekend and a pay day, expect heavy traffic. Fare probably would range around 200 Pesos, forgot the exact amount, my companion paid for the taxi fare. :)

I paid Php310 (my meter was Php305) from airport to Midtown Hotel (beside Crown Regency) a few weeks ago. I forgot if that was yellow or white taxi.

Travel Tips for Cebu City

SM Traveler's Lounge

by Rastarigo

SM has got a traveler's lounge just outside the mall where travelers can leave their luggage for a certain fee (30 pesos regular, 60 pesos for bigger compartment). Now free from handcarries and luggage you can go inside the mall and do whatever you want at your own pace less the weight.

Magellan's Cross

by mikoykoy

Located near the Shrine of Sto. Nino de Cebu and Fort San Pedro. The Magellan's Cross displayed is said to be encasing/housing the original cross which was planted by Ferdinand Magellan. Others claimed that the original cross is no longer there and that it was lost after the death of Magellan.

Italian food at its best!

by Carissa777 about Cielo

Cielo is an authentic Italian Restaurant with a contemporary bar and lounge, the interiors and music is quite reminiscient of NY city,
Its not one of those that try to be Italian but cant, i liked the music alot-- its different from all the alternative and OPM m.y.m.p. drama a lot of restaurants play these days.
The great thing about it is that you get a complimentary pizetta as an appetizer everytime you dine.

The restaurant then turns into a lounge/ bar towards the end of the night, and if you book birthdays with them-- you get to have a free bottle and a cake and a huge discount.

Music played is House, Mellow Techno and Ambient Lounge. After eating once, I had to go back again and again-- I've oficially tried
The Gourmet Pizzas, (have them make the Mango and Parma pizza -- its my personal concoction and personal fave;)
Pastas, (granchio - thats tomato and crab meat, soooo awesome.; Chicken Parmigiana and the penne Rustica are my favorites)
Osso Buco, Scallopini ala Marsala and traditional Italian Desserts such as Bread pudding, panna cotta, tartufo.

Magellan's Cross

by listenandlearn

Dear VT’ers:
Here is what it reads in that plague we took a photo off…We are retyping it as it’s not so easy reading in small prints.
“THE CROSS OF MAGELLAN
From time immemorial this spot has been set aside to commemorate the erection of a cross in Cebu by the expedition of Magellan. When King Humabon of Cebu and his Queen, son and daughters, together with some 800 of their subjects were baptized by Father Pedro Valderrama. This hallowed site was improved in 1735 by Rev. Juan Albarran, Prior of San Agustin and in 1834 by Rt. Rev. Santos Gomez Maranon. Bishop of Cebu. The Image of the Santo Nino found by the expedition of Legaspi in a House Near the Present site of the Cathedral of Cebu in venerated by the faithful in the nearby church of San Agustin. – 1941.”
