Friendly and in Up-beat place of Cebu

I love my stay in this pension house because the receptionists are friendly and very accommodating. They gave valuable recommendations too. The rooms are clean and it is in the spot where most interesting place to see in Cebu City are. It is walking distance to any key interest of the city area. The room rates are unbelievably cost effective considering the amenities of a basic guesthouse. It is equipped with hot and cold water. The rooms are clean and spacious for a guesthouse, cable TV, private bath and refrigerator is upon request, and free wi-fi access. What I like about this hostel is that it is a quiet place in the middle of Cebu City. It is close to the Capitol building, you can even take the Osmena Boulevard and follow it through the Basilica del Sto. Nino of Cebu, Fort San Pedro and Cebu Cathedral, the oldest street of Philippines which is Colon street and the Casa Gorrordo that houses old collections of artifacts, paintings and at the same time a museum.
This guesthouse got these big windows with curtains that give you an ample view of the street and few residences along the same street. It is also close to Ananda Marga, a yoga place if you want to learn or practicing yoga. And if you are a strict vegetarian you can also get your food here. It is also close to one of the restaurant that offers vegetarian meals like Persian Palate for food conscious people.
The location is only minutes walk to supermarket, malls, Mango Avenue where the bars, pubs and most entertainment area is. It is frequented by young professionals, students and call center agents.

Unique Quality: walking distance to key interests of Cebu City

Clean, Quiet, Popular Central Cebu Budget Hotel

Fuente Pension House is your basic clean , easy and low cost accomodation right in the heart of cebu city but set conveniently back a block from the main Fuente Circle so its also quiet.
The staff are professional and courteous , nothing to complain about , this is a budget hotel so its not 5 star service , you may have to wait but it is good and very acceptable.
The front desk is open 24 hours and they sell water and a few essentials at reception
I took the Family room last time I was there in August 2010 at 1800 pesos for one person plus 150 any extra person. If you were a couple you would want this as its the only room with double beds. The twin room is really two single beds pushed together.
It is most important to book ahead as this hotel is very popular and is frequently full
If you dont book, there are a number of alternatives near by in easy walking distance, even dragging luggage.
Taxis all know the Fuente Pension House so its easy to get to from the Airport for about 140 pesos if you can get a driver to put his meter on and its a standard taxi.

Unique Quality: A particularly good feature of this hotel is that check out is 24 hours after check in- it makes it very good if you are staying a short time and have a later flight when you depart. Arrive late, check out late can be so useful
There is a low cost laundry a few doors down so you can get washing done in 24 hours
I like this place also as it is quiet- not easy to find at this price range so close to Fuente Circle

Your reviews about accommodation/diving in the Visayas

by Annelein

Hi to you all!

I will be in the Visaya's region in November for 3 weeks. I am planning to dive most of the days. Since I have never been there, I could use some advice.

I have made some kind of initiary for the trip and would like to know if anyone has been to these places and can give me information about the accommodation/diving there. I am looking for a relaxing dive holiday, nice native bungalows (garden or sea max $25 per night), good food and diving.

Cebu, Fuente Pension House or NS Royal Pension (1 night after flight)
Malapascua, Cocobana Beach resort, White Sands Bungalows or Logon Beach Resort
Leyte, Southern Leyte Dive Resort or Peter's Dive Resort
Cabilao Island, La Estrella
Panglao Island, Alona Tropical, Bohol Divers Resort or Tierra Azul
Siquijor, Kiwi dive resort (any other dive schools on the island???)
Negros, (Dauin) El Dorado Beach Resort or Malatapay Beach Resort

Please let me know what your experience was (good and bad). If you have any other suggestions and tips, please let me know.

Thank you for all your help!!
Annelein

I am not a diver myself but my son is and he recommends Camiguin Island. I hope you are giving yourself plenty of time to travel between Islands etc. There is a flight to Camiguin from Cebu if pushed for time. Camiguin is also a wonderfully laid back place as well.

As you put negros in your travel itinirary, why don't you visit Apo Island, just 45 mins by boat from the mainland.Apo Is.has few resorts but there one I know
owned by a british guy who himself directs dives with guests, the resort is called 'Liberty'.It saves you from going back straightaway to the mainland.Apo island is one of the best dive sites in the Philippines out of the 3,also good for snorkelling.
The other resorts you mentioned are ok,Malatapay beach resort is very basic but fine, owned by a swiss,so as El dorado,it has also some diving. There's another one not far from Eldorado, the 'Atlantis beach resort' owned by Germans ,it also offers dives to guests. There other 3 more new ones along the strip, they are nice ones but more expensive too.
Here's a site of tummy shultz ,a US PEACE CORP Volunteerused to be base in dumageute, his site constains loads of photos from around philippines, that includes Apo island and underwater shots. http://www.tommyschultz.com/index.html

Looking at your IT, i see that you have not included Panay Island at all. Four provinces comprise it: Iloilo, Antique, Aklan and Capiz. There's a good diving site off Anini-y coast. The first town of Antique, just after Iloilo's southernmost town: San Joaquin. I would have wanted to recommend Guimaras Island too but the oil spill has done terrible damage.
