Cebu v. Manila

by pounce

I like big cities and I also like beaches. I guess neither are wanting for nightlife, but what would be better during the day?

Re: Cebu v. Manila

manila is the capital of the philippines. cebu is also a city but it is located in a different island. (from manila to cebu, you need to take the plane).
if you are into shopping, then manila it is. but there are no beaches in manila. only buildings. :)

Re: Cebu v. Manila

There is a Cebu City, a Cebu island and a Cebu province.

I presume you are referring to Cebu City.

There are no beaches in Cebu City either as the whole of the Cebu City coastline is taken up with shipping and industry. You have to get out of the city for beaches.

I used to live in Cebu City. So, I am naturally biased and will say Cebu City is the best. I hate trying to get around in Manila. Cebu City has all I need for daytime entertainment.

For me, Manila, Metro Manila or Greater Manila, it cannot compare.

So,

City, Island or Province... CEBU it is!
and am from Quezon City aargh! :(

I'd suggest Cebu :) Manila is very cosmopolitan. Indeed, it's just full of buildings and getting around is difficult due to heavy traffic. Cebu is more balanced. You can go around the city and go to the beach anytime. Actually, there are a lot of beaches near the city. Check out Mactan Island which is only 30 minutes away. Islands like this http://chictraveller.blogspot.com/2008/08/island-destinations-nalusuan.html are at your reach.

The people of the Philippines just love to smile.
A smile means so much and will always be returned with one.
This is the land of a million smiles.

It is also a land where patiance is a virtue at times, so just smile and you will get the results in the end.

Casa Gorordo

This amazing example of a Spanish farmhouse just as it was on colonial times is a must visit in Cebu.

Original furniture in Spanish style and the building itself turned this visit out to be one of the most interesting ones in Cebu.

Mini-Falls In Kawasan

by limledi

Kawasan Falls consist of 3 levels. You have to hike for 15 minutes to reach the 2nd level from the 1st and another 15 minutes from the 2nd to the 3rd. The trek is pleasant with beautiful views to enjoy. You have to balance on bamboos & huge rocks. One can also see nice mini-falls on the way.

Cebu - Home of the SU-TU-KIL and Sinulog Festival

by urhys

If you want the best of Filipino seafood cuisine, go to Cebu! The city sights are great specially in the third week of January when the Sinulog Festival is in full swing. Th Sinulog is a week-long celebration of the finding of the image of the Child Jesus (Sr. Sto. Nino) in a burned hut after a bloody battle between the natives and the Spanish under Ferdinand Magellan. You can look forward to colorful costumes, sumptuous meals and throngs of people dancing on the streets.
