The Best of Cebu
Its entrance was just a simple bungalow look alike that when you have no overview of Plantation Bay, you would think of it as just an ordinary resort.
Me and my boyfriend initially went here to spend our 8th Monthsary, quite luxurious eh? As we entered we were both captivated by the clean elegance of colonial-plantation architecture. No adjective could describe this man-made beach, we were like inside a beautiful painting. They have 4 receptionists of different nationalities who are very accommodating that would cater the needs of tourists all over the world. We immediately checked in our luggage so we could start to explore the whole of it. We initially reserved the poolside room for its price (the cheapest they have per night which costs about 10,000 pesos or $200 plus tax) but was really disappointed. It has this isolated feeling as it's located at the end of the resort, but has a pool of its own - a bit far from the lagoon. So we changed our booking to the lagoon side room, (14,000 pesos or $240) which they describe as best for honeymooners that's located near the entrance and just a few steps from it (around 4 or 5), you'd be able to swim in their man-made lagoon. The room was equipped with a jacuzzi, a terrace of it's own, 2 queen sized beds and a basket of delicacies. It has this native style way far from luxurious rooms you'd expect from a 5 star resort. I would suggest that they should put an LCD TV instead of an ordinary one.
We were first given a map and 2 complimentary drinks and we were like, a map for what? Once we started walking, we indeed knew the reason why. The place was so huge that it would take one a minimum of 50 minutes to see the entire place. Set in 11.4 hectares of secluded grounds - what would you expect?
They have a mini-golf course, a gym & game room, bikes for rent free of charge for those who are checked in - and lot more. As seen below, Bebe and I did a lot of activities together and really enjoyed the day. You'll never get bored in Plantation Bay as you'll never ran out of things to do.
Their Spa was breath-taking! Mogambo Springs. They even offer accommodation for those who wants to be pampered any time of the day. And just like everything in Plantation Bay - Pricey, but worth it.
So after all the recreational activities, It was time to enjoy the water. We swam almost the whole day and was having problems on choosing where to swim. In the main lagoon, warm water pool? Ordinary pool? We wanted to try everything that we ended up getting tired of transferring from one pool to the other. Nevertheless, we enjoyed taking pictures. They even have this waterfalls, gigantic slides etc. If you get tired of swimming they have a floating bar wherein you can order a drink to quench your thirst ;)
We had most of our meals at Kilimanjaro, the floating restaurant where they offer American Food. Bebe and I never got tired of their burger and club house which we ordered for our entire stay. And also, we are sooo addicted to their iced tea. For some reason, it just tastes different, YUMMY!
* Food isn't included in the accommodation.
One thing I dislike about Plantation Bay is the "real beach". It's full of weeds and stones and there's no way I'd be swimming here. The view on the other hand was breath-taking. If I had been proposed to there's no way I would have said No.
It was nearly dark and we were still in the water enjoying the sunset. There were fireworks etc. Plantation Bay has a different vibe during night time, with its lights and everything, suberbly romantic! Bebe and I just cuddled while listening to the band, watching performers and enjoying our delicious dinner. The waiters were so nice that he offered to take our picture with fireworks. =)
So it was time for slumber and dreams - just like what I said earlier, I was like inside a painting, and most part is, I spent this once fantasy with my intimate other, which made everything perfect.
Unique Quality: * The Bell Boys were very friendly and accommodating and this resort is indeed a NO TIP zone even when we insist.
Pool, views, facilities, everything was breath-taking.
Cebu's 5-Star Resort
Plantation Bay is our venue for the family reunion on my mother's side. For P800/head, food is just so so. Marco Polo Hotel serves much better food for the same price. Food in Shangrila is very pricey but it's definitely better than the food served in Plantation Bay. The following day, some of the family members got an upset stomach. The place is good for kids coz there are plenty of activities offered with it's huge grounds & lagoons. My kids had much fun with the water slides. The rooms are okay. Bathroom is huge with bathtub, shower, toilet & lavatory. The only downside is the poor drainage. Rooms are pricey being a 5-star resort. Mosquitoes are also everywhere coz of the garden. You can jog in the morning with its huge grounds. They also offer spa treatments. As for swimming, I still prefer beach to a lagoon. So for this reason, I choose Shangrila Resort anytime than this resort. Shangrila has a nice beach with plenty of fishes swarming around you to feed. Plantation Bay beach is small & not that inviting. But for those who havn't been to Plantation Bay, it's worth checking out just for a single stay.
Unique Quality: Beautiful huge lagoons with water slides.

The biggest pool I've ever seen
This hotel was amazing. The ground of the hotel span a whopping 12km radius!? and there are open air minibuses to take you around the grounds of the hotel. Originally when we got there our room had not been reserved - as we had not properly confirmed the booking on the internet before we arrived. Even though they were fully booked as it was peak time (January 2008) they arranged a zen room for us - which is a spa room they usually use for guest staying at the spa. We then moved to a regular room the night after and wer very pleased- the cable television had 60 plus channels, the room service was very good. The hotel is of old colonial style architechture, and each sepearte building which looks like a mansion and houses 6-8 rooms is named after something of english or spanigh heritage, with a board which details the history of each building type. very educational!
Unique Quality: The hotel has a salt water lagoon for swimming that goes right around the inside parameter of the hotel - basically a huuuge pool, and inside the laggon (imagine a giant loop) there is sandy mand made beaches with sun lounges and -yes another pool- although a chlorinated one which is more so used by small children. The main restaurant is also located near the pool. The Savannah grill has nightly karaoke challenges and live music- not to mention a 3 hour happy hour which provides all you can drink cocktails and beers for AUD $15 (500 pesos.)
The savannah grill serves american style fare such as burgers, ribs, buffalo wings.
We stayed in Cebu for 3 days and did NOT leave this hotel - there was so much to do - archery, gun shooting (yes there is a rifle shooting ranch there) snorkelling, kayaking, scuba diving, mini golf, volleyball and so on! There is also a daily activities board, all of which are free to guests and many things foto keep kids busy - from drawing contests, to jewellery making, to playstaion and nintendo wii challenges, billiards challanges and karaoke.
There is an excellent day spa called the Mogambo springs which has a hot and cold jacuzzi, fresh waterfall, massages facials etc available on request. Mogambo springs is about the size of some smaller villa hotels I have stayed in! If Disneyland was a hotel, this would be it!
Directions: about 10 mins drive from Mactan international airport - trip should cost no more than 200 pesos by taxi.
One of Cebu's best hang out
Great experience and maybe a once in a lifetime chance to enjoy it's beautiful scenery. The landscapes are fulfilling to the eyes.
Unique Quality: the man-made lagoon very nice!!
Directions: few min drive ahead from Mactan Memorial Garden
More about Plantation Bay
Plantation Bay is Top Notch
The resort is very nice and comparable with any top notch resort you'll find in the U.S. We stayed 3 nights in November and had excellent weather so we enjoyed the water (and there is a lot of it) most of the time, but they have a lot of other activities. But what reall stands out is the sevice and people working there. It was far above the best we have ever experienced. Everyone was so nice and friendly it actually took me a day to determine if it was genuine.... but it was ... and as beautiful as the place is... this is what really seperates it from a any other resort we've stayed.
The restaurants aren't cheap by Philippine standards, but they are very good and except for one trip we made to the Shangi La for dinner (which the folks at PB made reservations for us and got us a private room to boot!!!) we ate at the PB the whole time.
5 star resort located an hour away from Cebu city. The shuttle bus runs from 6 am - 12 midnight every 30 mins daily from the resort to the city. The resort is huge, from the lobby you need to get on a small car to get to your rooms (free of charge). There are differEnt types of cottages. We had the riverboat house near the lagoon. Employees are very friendly and will treat you VIP. You don't need to tip, there is a sign that says you don't need to tip them. The place is very relaxing, nice to spend time with your family. Hotel also offers island tours and water sports. Please check out their website for more details. The lovely artificial lagoon, built over a site consisting of barren rock. To create fabulous white-sand beaches bordering the lagoon. A bonus is that, unlike real beach sand, it's always cool to the touch, even under direct sun and crystal clear waters.
Spa treatment for a taste of relaxation. The spa's setting is uniquely charming, designed to resemble an 18th century Tokugawa Japanese village with its own thundering waterfalls, creek, and fog-like mist
this place is nice and u can swim in their cool and clean swimming pool anytime u want!!!! the facilities are great, the employees are great, the water in the pool is so cool and u can really relax!!!!
A FIVE STAR RESORT WITH AFFORDABLE PRICES
A HIGHLY ACCLAIMED RESORT IN CEBU, THIS FACILITY BOASTS EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE WITHOUT THE REQUIRED TIPPING, YES, THE STAFF DON'T TAKE TIPS (BUT THEY ARE BEING NICELY COMPENSATED, AS PER STAFF). THE PLACE IS JUST WONDERFUL AND OFFER PLENTY OF ACTIVITIES AND SPA TREATMENTS DURING YOUR STAY. EVERY ROOM HAS A GREAT VIEW, JUST A FEW FEET AWAY FROM THE BEACH, AND THE STAFF ARE FRIENDLY, THE PLACE IS JUST FILLED WITH GREAT AMBIENCE, AS MY AUNT SAID IT FEELS LIKE YOU'RE IN A SMALL VILLAGE"
Great family place!
We stayed at Plantation Bay in mid-December as a family of four (2 children aged 4.5 and 2.5) for four nights.
It was a side trip of our main trip to the Philippines. We chose Plantation Bay over other resorts because of the vast swimming areas that they have and wasn't disappointed! The children swam everyday and the resort also had daily activities for them to join in (thank you to the sports coordinator Jen, who was very good with the kids). Another person who was good with the kids was the butler, also the baby sitter, Danika.
I was very pleased with the staff, as there was a strict no tipping policy and they still very helpful in every way they can be!
The food was disappointing at Plantation Bay, it was very expensive! If you plan to join in with any of the nightly buffet, it is best to make sure you book to avoid disappointment! We found out that it was cheaper to eat out, even after paying the high taxi charges, but there is the traffic to deal with!
The rooms are questionnable. We originally booked a poolside room, but they are hidden away, so opted to upgrade to a lagoon view room. The best rooms are probably the lagoon side rooms.
My husband booked a dive and enjoyed it. Price was fair.
The Mogambo Spa staff and services are excellent! We loved the full body massage! Wonderful spa attendants!
Plantation Bay in the Philippines
To celebrate New Year's Eve with my fiancee, I visited a resort called Plantation Bay. If you like swimming, getting a suntan, having romantic dinners on the beach, or just relaxing in colonial style rooms, this is the place for you!
Visit their homepage for more details.
The only thing that disappointed me was the huge difference between the resort and everything outside the resort walls (yes, there are walls around the resort to keep the local population out!). There is so much poverty on the streets...

Please help, require info. on Plantation Bay Resort
Hi all, Im planing a trip from Canada to Cebu, has anyone stayed at the Plantationbay Resort? I've read mixed reviews on this property. If anyone has any information on this please let me know, thanks.
RE: Please help, require info. on Plantation Bay Resort
What do you want to know about Plantation Bay? We've stayed in this place for 3 nights. It's a self-contained resort in Mactan Island. It has several restaurants, activities like island-hopping, snokeling are also available and various pools for swimming and sunbathing. Within the resort there's a tiny mini-golf, small man-made rock- for climbing, massage/spa etc. Its a nice place for relaxation. We also toured Cebu from here.
