Olot Beach Resort: Imelda Marcos' Beach Hideaway
We just wanted to see Imelda's different mansions in Leyte and were pleasantly surprised when offered to stay here (we're their very first guests). Since it was formally owned by the Marcoses, you already have an idea what kind of place this is. Our accomodation is excellent, with 3 air-conditioned rooms but since it's still under renovation, the circuit breaker will turn the power off when we consumed much more electricity than the place could handle which happened a number of times. One of the investor (Ed) is from California and their staff were very friendly and helpful. Very nice experience and I would definitely recommend the place.
For one, it was formerly owned by the Marcoses, so there's history. In fact, part of the resort is a museum where the Marcoses stay. The place though was not properly maintained under the hands of PCGG but now is under lease to an investor and is still under renovation at the time but you could already see the potential of the place. You have a feel of exclusivity because of the two hills that separate your ordinary beach and the Marcoses. They have a large swimming pool (still under renovation at the time), function area and kitchen as the Marcoses entertain their guests here. It also have a golf course and a number of huts you could rent.
