Western Prices but not worth it

Not impressed with this hotel. We wanted to treat ourselves and chose the most expensive hotel in town. For US$ 90 per night for a double room we got the following: noise pollution from screaming pigs (the slaughter house is next door) and karaoke cranking from the bar next door; a leaking toilet; an ice cold shower with zero pressure; the TV wasn't working; the curtains fell down; bad food and bad service - we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast pancakes (made from instant powder), which arrived raw in the middle; the housekeeping didn't clean the rooms properly. When we asked to speak to the manager, the front desk staff told us he was in a meeting (at 7pm...) and he'd call us back. Of course nobody called and when we confronted them again they admitted that they had lied to us before. In the end we got to speak to the manager and we got 1 night free plus 20 % discount on the remaining nights.

Hotel type Accommodation

Located near the public market, Lualhati park, public transportation terminal and tourism office. It is a waterfront accommodation too with the view of the sea but I don’t like the location, the very busy surrounding and the rate is expensive. The hotel also offers tour packages, cocktail parties, meetings, conferences and other special occasions.

Room rates
Junior suite single P5, 500.00
Junior suite twin (small) P5, 500.00
Junior suite twin (queen size) P7, 500.00
Presidential Suite P10, 100.00
Extra person is additional P500.00

Stay at Sea Dive resort, cheap rooms but nice and clean, superb views from the dining area. Except rooms, every thing is expensive.

For island hopping, Google DIY Coron... this is the best option available there.

Travel Tips for Coron

Walking is good for the heart... and the eyes.

by f8stop

Whenever able, walk from one point to another instead of riding a motorized vehicle. You'll have a better feel of the place and you'll get to enjoy the slow pace of life around you. There are also lots of interesting stuff to see -- local people, different types of houses, churches, sari-sari stores, souvenir shops, etc. Plus, you'll probably need the exercise after all the eating you're bound to do. =)

Mountains

by moonlighting

A chain of mountain ranges cut down the length of Palawan. The highest peak rises to 2,000m at Mount Matalingahan (not in the picture), creating the perfect backdrop to the crystal clear waters.

When entering the Busuanga & Coron area, the view is fantastic! So much mountains left and right. Even the way from one divesite to another will never be long and boring because you will be seeing these mountains and cliffstones.

Things to bring:

by smarty_alec

Big extra bags for your wet clothes; Comfortable slippers/shoes; aqua shoes (to save your feet from jag-edged rocks while snorkeling); cap; sunblock lotion (you will need a lot of this especially if you intend to do a lot of island hopping); Medicines; Wet Ones; First-aid kit; Camera; Flash drive (should you need to transfer photos from your camera to create more space for the next day's picture taking); Chargers for your phone and digital cameras;
Flashlight especially if you plan to climb Mt. Tapyas early in the morning or late at night;
Mosquito repellent;
Snorkeling gears;
swiss knife;

Wreck Diving

by moonlighting

There are about 12 explored WWII Japanese wrecks along the bays of Coron and Busuanga (for a more details, check out the intro part of my Coron page).

We were able to dive 3 of them and my favorite was the one in the picture, Olympia Maru, not more than 90 feet below. We penetrated the wreck through and through and there I saw the biggest and healthiest breed of fishes. We also saw some interesting contents of the ship that were left by looters, aluminum coils, broken beer and sake bottles.
