Your home away from home in Coron, Palawan

We stayed in Princess of Coron Lodge for 3 days and 2 nights. We were intially given an adequate room on the 2nd floor, but we wanted a room that was a bit bigger so we chose to request for another one. The friendly receptionist, May, immediately attended to our request and proceeded to show us another room which was just vacated earlier. What we were shown was a room that was a lot bigger, roomier and better, and for only a few hundred pesos more per night, plus the bathroom was huge too! We loved it and booked it immediately, especially since it was just across the swimming pool and the garden, and because the was a small open veranda in front where we could just chill and hang out. Lucky for us we went there during the off season and on a weekday, which was why we were able to get a better room. The room had a native style bamboo bed and cabinets, a native sala/sofa set in the living room, a TV with cable channels, more than ample air conditioning, and was pretty neat and clean. The bathroom had a hot and cold shower, was big, and was clean too. They also served us welcome drinks (upon request though! LOL!)!

The place itself was quiet, with lots of plants and trees, which made it very relaxing. There was a big monkey cage, but the monkeys were not noisy. The staff were very courteous, polite and attentive to the guests needs. Even our fellow guests were quite friendly too! The swimming pool was nice enough, and I'm not sure why, but thankfully there weren't too many mosquitoes and insects during our stay there. Also, the owner, whom we met on our second night, was very nice and accomodating, and took some time to chat with us even though she was tired from her trip back from Manila. The resort also has 2 nice and tame dogs you can play with: an "askal" and a labrador.

Even though the lodge/hotel lacks an in-house restaurant, the staff would gladly suggest some nice and affordable places to eat in town. For dinner on our first night, May suggested we eat at Lolo Nonoy's, and we were very thankful for her suggestion (Thanks a lot, May!). The food there was affordable and quite good. We especially enjoyed the Embotido, the Chicken Cordon Bleu, and the Calamares, which was cooked just right: soft and crunchy, and not rubbery!

If you're on a tour package, it would be best to talk to the staff as to what choices are available for breakfast (That is normally what they only serve since there is no in-house restaurant, but I think arrangements can also be made if you would like to buy fresh food from the market and have it cooked there) the night before so that you would be able to choose. They serve breakfast at a quaint "Kubo/Kubol" in front of the pool, which adds to the relaxing ambience. They served us delicious daing on our second day, and longganiza and corned beef on our third day.

When we go back to Coron, next time for 4 days and 3 nights or possibly longer (3 days and 2 nights is way too short, believe me!), we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Princess of Coron Lodge again. It is definitely our home away from home in Coron, Palawan.

Could be the best hotel in Coron

This is a charming retreat in Coron, which gave us value for our money. The room was clean and quite charming. The pool is a treat and it helped us unwind after a whole day of island-hopping. Something could be done to keep some bugs out but this is the garden setting and during the rainy season in the Philippines, some bugs are expected. This would be the same problem wherever you stay on the island, or being just on the island. There was a bug that was quite scary for us at one point but management had been gracious about some complaints.

The room was generously sized and included one queen bed, but there was enough space for extra mattresses without leaving us feeling claustrophobic. The beds were decent and the bathroom was clean. It was inconvenient not to have a restaurant on site, but the hotel is within the city and we could walk to some eateries, and others are only a 3 minute-tricycle ride away. The staff also offered to prepare breakfast for a small fee.

Overall, even with a few inconveniences, I would definitely consider staying in this hotel again.

Best Stay in Coron

After rats drove us out of the SeaDive Resort, and we visited several other pensions and guest houses, we were very happy to come across the Princess of Coron Resort (also named the Hausman Resort & Lodging House, after the Austrian proprietor who has lived local for more than 25 years).

Mr. Hausman and his family live on the premises. He has been building the resort up from the ground over the years and has done an impressive job. The grounds and the rooms are remarkably clean and comfortable. The staff is overly courteous and eager to help!

A few conversations with the family and you can get first hand information on how Coron has evolved over the last 30 years. Mr. Hausman brought the first car to the island from Manila in the 70's and still drives it today...

Unique Quality: The rooms have A/C and solar heated water.
The beds are very comfortable and vary in sized depending on the rooms.
There is a small pool in the shade of the giant trees.
On the grounds, the family keeps a few monkeys (don't worry, they are quiet), a horse and a few very friendly dogs.

If asked for anything, they will take care of it, even if you want a ride down to the hot springs!

Only downside is they don't take credit cards (yet). Cost is ~1600PHP depending on the room.

I just Googled the place and came up with a second web page. There are alternate emails and phone numbers listed:
http://www.philippinen-urlaub.at/

http://www.pinoyislands.com/princess-of-coron-lodge/

Halfway down that page, Karl states that the phone numbers listed are no longer associated with the hotel, but the page is not updated. I recommend trying to contact them through this website. The email listed below is still valid.
