A beautiful Island Resort and Spa

Dos Palmas is now very, very safe and beautiful.

Years back it was put in hot water when a hostage crisis (the Burnhams et al) in 2001. Just when they were regaining the trust of the public, another incident happened. A famous actor died during one of their festivities on Holy Week, almost a year later.

I love(d) the food and the surroundings.

There are lots of things to do, especially if you love water sports.

As a researcher I enjoyed visiting the research center and exploring the nature friendly places.

The only thing that I did not like was that there were(are) no television sets around the resort.

I got tired going around that I just wanted to lounge around the room and watch tv. Unfortunately, there's none around. :(

Well, thank goodness they have wi-fi or else, I would not be able to "relax". (LOL)

I really would want to get back here one day...well, I will. I promise.

by joysweet about Dos Palmas Arrecefi Resort

Got a day tour package (P1,500 for adults). Our tour started with a bus ride from NCCC mall in palawan city town proper, a 45 minute bus ride going to the wharf. From the wharf we rode their banca for abour 20-30 minutes i think.

We were greeted by the sounds of native instruments being played by the hotel staff. Great buffet lunch. Welcome drinks of somekind of flower juice (which i totally forgot, but there was a gumamela in the glass)

Honda Bay's Exclusive Resort

by limledi about Dos Palmas Resort

Cottage/ac/bath P9250 to P12,000 per person, including full board. Extensive, exclusive grounds with well-kept, tastefully decorated cottages, some of which are built on piles in the water. Restaurant, swimming pool, tennis courts, kayaks, diving.
Plenty of things to do in this resort. You can wander in their beautiful garden grounds til you reach the mangroves. Sports activities are also available. Kids will not get bored in their children's playroom with TV & videos. The resort can also arrange to take you to their snorkelling area thru their speed boat. The lunch buffet is very satisfactory. We paid P1200/pax for the day trip. It was such an enjoyable experience. Nice snorkelling area. Huge beautiful garden grounds.

Dos Palmas, Palawan

"A Stormy Company Outing"

This is my first time to go to Palawan. But wasn't able to enjoy it that much because a typhoon accompanied us. It was gloomy and the water was unclear due to strong water current. Even though the weather was not friendly that time, the beauty of Dos Palmas still stand out.

Dos Palmas Experience

by crazydigger

My family went to Palawan for the Holy Week (March 28-31). We left Manila via PR 195 (PAL) which was delayed by an hour. When we arrived, Dos Palmas (DP) staff welcomed us with wooden bead necklaces. Then we boarded the bus for the Honda Bay Wharf where we boarded the DP ferry for the resort.
We arrived at the resort just in time for lunch. We spent the afternoon exploring the resort and resting in our rooms. At around 5pm, we went kayaking. Dinner was at Karaenan, DP's only restaurant. The good thing about the vacation package was that it included all meals - buffet meals at that!

The next day, we went island hopping and fishing. we visited pandan and snake islands. Fishing was not so fun as we didn't catch any fish. Only our guides caught fishes and they were quite small. Here's a picture of my sister and I with the map of Dos Palmas
We spent the afternoon snorkelling. We visited Helen's Garden and it was really beautiful. We saw various corals, fishes and even a giant clam! Island hopping tour costs 500 per person. But if you're a big groups, the rate can go as low as 300 pesos per person.
As we were scheduled to leave the next day, we decided to try their Tropical Spa. Kat and I had the Relaxing Aromatherapy massage while Cin had a milk bath. The massages cost 500 pesos each (cheaper than Manila rates) while the milk bath was 450 pesos. There's also various wraps (honey and oatmeal, etc.) costing 750 pesos.

"Underground River"

We left Dos Palmas at 6:30am as we had planned an Underground River Cruise. From Dos Palmas, we rode speedboat for 30-minutes to get to the Honda Bay Wharf. From there, a van (from the travel agency) picked us up for a 3-hour ride to Sabang. The road was rough and it was a bumpy ride. When we got to Sabang (beaches here are great! although still undeveloped), we took a 20-minute banca ride to the Sabang National Underground River Park. When we got there, we registered and had to wait for an hour for our turn. While waiting, we had lunch (included in the 1200 pesos river tour fee) of crabs, chicken, salad with softdrinks and fruits. The Underground River is an 8.2 kilometer navigable river. However, only 1 meter was accesible to the public. Ten people were assigned to one boat with 1 guide/boatman. One of the passengers is assigned to carry a torch (supplied). Once inside, you can see various stalagmites and stalacite formations, depending on your imagination. The best of the them all is that known as the Cathedral. A huge cavern which had an altar and formations of the 3 kings and the Holy Family.

"Puerto Princesa"

We stayed at the newest hotel in the City: Hotel Fleuris. It was a small hotel (smaller than Legend, Asiaworld and Asturias) but it was really well-kept. There was a piano bar at the 2nd floor. The hotel has 4 floors and there's no elevator. However, they have a special room for physically challenged people at the 1st floor. For a triple-sharing room, the rate was 850 per person. For twin-sharing, it was 1,100 pesos. Both rates include a free buffet breakfast. The hotel also has a Japanese restaurant. However, we opted to try Ka Lui's, a rustic, native restaurant just 10 minutes away from the Hotel. The food there was really good - especially their sizzling sisig! The seaweeds (lato) was also very fresh and big! The restaurant also doubles as an art gallery.

"Some useful numbers"

Check out Ka Lui's at 369 Rizal Avenue, Puerto Princesa or call them at (6348)433-2580.

To book at Hotel Fleuris, call 632-8516770 or 632-8535809 or 632-8516769. They're located at Lacao St. Puerto Princesa City with phone number (048)4344338

Once restaurant we missed which you shouldn't is the Badjao Seafood Restaurant!

Dos Palmas Day Tour reviews?

by earthboundfaerie

(I finally found my password for my old account so i;ll be using this now instead of 'wanderlustfaerie' which i have been using for awhile. sorry.)

Anyway, I was just wondering if you guys could tell me how your Dos Palmas day tours went (for those who've gone already)? What time and where exactly do they pick you up and drop you off, btw?

Thanks so much! :D

Re: Dos Palmas Day Tour reviews?

by joysweet

Pick up at NCCC Mall at about 6am.

Drop off - you will leave the resort at about 4pm i think.

Re: Dos Palmas Day Tour reviews?

by marlonpasilon

based on the reviews here, the package costs somewhere between 1200-1500? but when i called dos palmas's office in manila, they told me it's 1800? how do you get the discount? there'll be 10 people in my group, so we can probably save between 3,000-6,000 pesos? help pls! thanks!

Re: Dos Palmas Day Tour reviews?

by joysweet

sorry, i wrote that review the year i went to palawan. they have probably increased already.

if you just want to hit the beach, maybe you can opt to do a honda bay isaland hopping instead of the day tour to dos palmas?

Re: Dos Palmas Day Tour reviews?

by airborne05

If you can skip this and just island hop around Honda Bay I feel this is more worth it. We did the Dos Palmas day package last year, cost us P1,800. They give discount if your a local tourist, like we all were. For this price you get to avail of the ff activities plus free use of equip.: snorkel and kayak like we did plus an lunch buffet. Afaik scuba too. Pick up is at NCCC Mall, at 7 a.m., you don't leave at once, you wait till whoever's in your tour group that day arrives. There's a long ferry ride to Dos Palmas Island itself, where you at least get to see Honda Bay and it's islands, we got there a bit before lunch. Then you choose to do whatever activities you want and you leave before 4 pm. The best part was the kayaking, we got to circle their island which is pretty small, but fun to do. We passed thru a lot of mangroves. This was the highlight of the trip for me.

I think the time span is just too short, the place is nice if you're into resorts and all, but for me nothing special. Of course everything not in the package is resort priced, which is expensive.

Which is better Dos Palmas tour or Honda Bay Island Hopping??

by jayanne12

Hi, if you have to choose between Dos Palmas or Honda Bay, which would it be? Thanks. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

RE: Which is better Dos Palmas tour or Honda Bay Island Hopping??

by LAtravel

Dos Palmas is a resort in Honda Bay. Dos Palmas was the place where the Abu Sayaff kidnapped some tourist back in 2000 I believe. For Honda Bay I would spend my money on hiring a bangka and bangkero, to explore the many wildlife rich islands within Honda Bay. Bat Island has thousands of fruit bats (harmless) resting during the day. The snorkeling is not as good as Bohol but the waters in the bay is very calm. I stayed in a hotel in Puerto.

by dindo_m

yes its in honda bay, so don't choose "either or" but hit the two tours with one boat! just an extra P500 your honda bay tour can get you to a visit to that enchanting island resort.

longstay accomm. on Palawan Island

by peterwalker

We are 2 retired English couples. Thinking of coming to Palawan for 2 months,Nov/Dec.2007. Would like to rent 2 small apartments or 1 goodsize house., in a good position. Close to beach, restuarants, facilities etc. Maybe also rent a car.
We like sitting on beaches, swimming, fishing, walking ,local culture, good local food, bit of nightlife, beer and rum, getting to know people (especially locals).
Our previous,(many years), longstay holiday destination has been spoiled ,so we are looking for a new place to get away from the UK winters. Usually we will stay for 4-6 months but this year only 2 months.
Any info. or advice would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Peter Walker,Manchester,UK.

Re: longstay accomm. on Palawan Island

by daryllward

Hi Peter
You havn't mentioned whether you've been in the philippines before, but as I've been in the PI twice and am married to a filipina I'd say from my brother in law who has been to Palawan a few times the beaches and low areas are very beautiful, but high areas i.e towards forests, etc be careful because of the mozzies, you probably would need to take anti-malaria tablets well before, during and on return from your visit. Puerta Princesa is meant to be the hub of the Island and if you havn't ever been to the PI Peter and you love seafoods, its truly unbelievable experience because its so fresh and cheap, and more importantly so plentiful. Have a good trip!
