Philippines trip June 2007

"Manila"
We arrived at about 4 PM in Manila, after waiting in line for immigration (I remember only 3 windows were open, but it took about 20 mins to pass through), we went to the arrival area to find the rep of Kabayan Hotel as we booked this hotel with free pickup service. Actually, we had to wait for another 30 minutes until they arranged a car for us...the ride to the hotel is about 10 mins...A haven't been to Manila for 12 years but my feeling was that nothing had changed. The only big change is Makati, when you are there you can forget about misery and desperation of average Pinoys....
"Dinner"
On the same evening we went to SM mall food plaza for dinner. The choice of food is great, the only thing to consider is that the food in the Philippines is not really delicious, yes, it is acceptable and looks not bad, but that's all...the same can be said about Pinoy food in general, it seems that the Philippines is not a gastronomic paradise..i tried many kinds of food in Bohol, Boracay and Kalibo, but even in expensive restaurants it is just average...

Any recommendations? I need to stay somewhere close to Ali mall/the bus station heading to Bicol/Mindanao for my onward trip.
Thanks!

For dorm type accommodation in Manila, you may try the following:
Malate Pensionne, 1771 M. Adriatico St., Malate, +63 2 523-8304
Pension Natividad, 1690 M. H. Del Pilar St., Malate, +63 2 526-0992
Kabayan Hotel, 2878 Zamora St., Pasay City, +63 2 891-7878
The first 2 are within the tourist belt, while the last one is near the MRT/LRT stations (elevated train system).

in El Nido, try Gloria's, 450 pesos per room, for 2 people. I think there's also 150 per person located at the town proper. for Coron, try Sea Dive located also at the town proper. we stayed at Discovery Dive and Resort for 1,000 per room which can fit in 3 people.
cheers!

Hi,
Me and my friends are quite confuse on where to go to, Coron vs El Nido, which do you prefer. When it comes to views and landscapes, which one is better? And do you have any suggestions on where to stay in Coron besides from Discovery, do you have any idea where Sea Dive Resort is?

i suggest El Nido instead of Coron. Sea Dive is near Bistro Coron. Just take a tricycle and they know it. :)
