a Sexy bathroom overlooking Marina Bay by bpacker The next time you're in Singapore and dying to pamper yourself, check out the "World's Sexiest Bathrooms" at the Ritz. Every single bathroom over here has a huge octagonal shaped window with astounding views of Marina Bay or Kallang River. What this means that you'll get to have a superb view of the city skyline whilst enjoying a foam bath ( and singing a bad rendition of any song ).Yes, the foam bath is pure decadence. If that is not enough, you can get a butler to draw your bath for you and throw in a free rubber duckie for S$25. Well, if you must know, I had my bath sans rubber duckie and throughly enjoyed it. Figured I could draw my own bath since lovely bathing salts were already provided. All I needed to do was to provide my own bath oils and bubble foam.
Opt for one of their decadent packages at their website. Since I heard so much about the Ritz, I opted for the weekend package and for about S$312, I got to enjoy an upgrade to the deluxe room ( facing Marina Bay ) , late check at 6pm and tea for two at the Chihuly lounge. Hmm, gd value for money, I thought. I had a lovely weekend and was throughly rejuvenated after God - knows - how - many baths in the decadent bathtub. Picture from the NewPaper by bpacker More than 50% of Singaporeans live in pigeon-holes since land is really scarce around here. Yup, that's what we call the government -built flats or HDB (Housing Development Board) flats. Ever wonder what it is like to live like a local in Singapore? Now you can try do so in this this new and quirky hostel that's recently that is situated in a Woodlands HDB shophouse.
Almost everything is recycled here. That includes recycled toilet bowls for chairs, pipes for lockers, etc. It really provides a great talking point if you meet other travellers. Yup, you can try sitting on the toilet bowl and ask that "What's a nice gal/guy like you doing in a place like this?" opening line. So much for the cheese, this is the first HDB approved hostel ever. The owner of this hostel raised many eyebrows in HDB and the parliament when his proposal was brought up. Those eyebrows stayed up there for many months before the government gave the go-ahead sign....Cheers to that! It's the next best thing to relaxing the rules on bar-top dancing and bungy jumping... Picture from NewPaper by bpacker This trendy and hip joint is the newest kid on the block. What's great about it is its central location and it's proximity to the local watering hole, Boat Quay and lots of restaurants.
There's a beer lounge / rooftop chill-out area and a library with travel information on Singapore’s attractions, local popular magazines and newspapers, as well as local and regional travel guides. You also get breakfast with toast, jam, and free flow of coffee and tea. If that's not enough, there's also access to the neighbouring club's gym and spa facilities...sounds fantastic, I would say for S$20 ! Picture from the website by bpacker Ever wondered what is it like to live like a local? Well, now you can, thanks to this new homestay programme that has been set up recently. You can to stay with boarders who live in condominiums in various parts of Singapore.
The great thing about this programme is that they'll try to match you to an appropriate boarder. So if you're a Senior Citizen, they'll match you with an elderly couple, so on and so forth. Click on the link below to find out more.

Joo Chiat Shophouse by bpacker Joo Chiat is steeped in Peranankan (Straits Chinese) culture and heritage. You'll see lots of pre-war shophouses everywhere and great restaurants that you won't find any where else on the island.
For $18, you get a dorm room, free internet access, breakfast, lockers, linen, etc. Sounds like a great offer. When I was in Europe, I remember paying separate charges for my bed linen and breakfast! PROGRESS IS EVERYTHING IN SINGAPORE. THIS HOTEL WILL CLOSE ON 31 OCT 2008 AND ENTER HISTORY. Don't expect 5 stars. This is a hotel suited for folks travelling on a variety of budget. The building is very old school but then again, this is where the charm lies. There are 4 types of room: Deluxe, Superior, Standard & Backpacker. The Deluxe and Standard Rooms come with ensuite bathroom (come with towels), and are located on the 5th and 6th storey, and would be more suitable for bigger groups or small families as the rooms can accommodate an extra bed. (The 7th storey is off limit to guest) The Deluxe Room comes with IDD access phones, complimentary coffee/tea, a mini-fridge, a radio clock & a DVD player. I took a peek at the Standard rooms: Smaller, comes with a sink and like the Backpacker room, has to share a common bath. There are lockers in the common area. All rooms are air-conned and have a TV (local channels). There is a self-servicing laundrette on the 6th storey, which is also the location of the beer garden. There are sun-tanning decks on the 4th and 5th storey. There is an Internet station on every floor (S$1 for 15 mins; coin operated) Games are available from the 3rd storey pantry/chill out space while the Business Centre is located on the 2nd storey. The staff are reasonably friendly but not overtly sparkling. Then again, you aren't visiting a school for clowns. Food/snacks are sold 24 hours at reasonable prices. The Reception and the manually-operated lift are also open 24 hours. The hotel also runs a food court/restaurant where you dig in local dishes. The specialty of the place is steam-boat with chicken rice. You should see the crowd on the weekends!
The manually operated dinasaur of a lift for sure! It is manned by a staff at all times. It's like falling into a time warp and stumbling back to the 50s & 60s. Groovy! Location is king and you couldn't ask for a better location. Easily accessible from the airport by both taxi and the subway (MRT). Bugis Junction Mall and Bugis Village Market are within walking distance (10 minutes top) and you could easily hop onto a bus or take the MRT to Orchard Road, Marina Square and Suntec City. Plenty of eateries, restaurants, food courts litter the area - you'll be spoilt for choice for food! I honestly think that for a hotel catering to a budget-conscious cliente, it certainly is a great hotel. Friendly and comfortable, it should make for a good stay! SWISSOTEL-THE STAMFORD by aussiejen Nice hotel to stay in. Large rooms with TV, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. There were 2 double beds in our room (just as well because I was sharing a room with my brother). But strangely there was only 1 chair! When I asked for another one they thought I was quite mad!! It arrived after a couple of phone calls. Full breakfast was included in our deal. So much choice!!! I'm sure I eventually tried nearly everything on offer, it was all so yummy.
this is the tallest hotel in Singapore. The views from our room on the 53rd floor were beautiful. We were overlooking the harbour. Location is great. The MRT is located underneath, very convenient. Raffles Plaza is right next door. Suntec City very close as well. Only a short walk to Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay.

Merchant Court Hotel, S'pore by bpacker Over here in Singapore, we locals live to eat the next buffet and sometimes, it gets so bad that some popular joints are booked weeks in advance! The Straits Chinese dinner/lunch spread offered by the Merchant Court Hotel (Ellenborough Cafe)is a case in point. For about $21.90 +++ for lunch and $26.90 +++ for dinner, you'll get oodles of fresh sashimi, slipper lobster in black bean sauce and durian mousse. Oh yes, before I forget, the rooms are ok too. Get the ones with the verenda facing the Singapore River.
Personally, only the maze-like configuration of the rooms suck. Everything else is ok.

This hotel is in a remote location. You can get a taxi from here or catch a city bus about a block away. We stayed here because it is the place to get on the bus going to Johore,Malaysia. It leaves very early in the morning so we wanted to stay nearby.
The restaurants were nice and the food was good. The rooms were rather dark and dated.

This is a large hotel with 540 rooms. We found a special rate for the Oriental and decided to stay there. There is an interesting 240 shop mall attached to the hotel.
Very large rooms with comfortable bed. Nice dressing area. Seperate bathtub and enclosed shower. Nice pool area with spa. Cheaper rooms do not get a view. Our window looked out over another hotel.
