I usually stay at the Orchard Hotel because I like to be on Orchard Road for the shopping and the resteraunts that are located there. The hotel is first class and is where the Prime Minister stays when needed. The cost is comparable with the other hotels in the area, and must book early as they fill up.
There is a great pool on the 4th level with a gym for working out.

This is one of Singapore’s newest hostels which was opened in 2005 and therefore quite modern in its facilities. The rooms are air-conditioning and have dorm styled beds with shared toilet/bathroom facilities equipped with hair dryers. Linen and towels are changed daily and there are also laundry facilities. Security is good with a round the clock reception (no curfew or lockout) and TV. monitoring in the main areas. Private lockers are provided free of charge and there is a broadband internet centre. Rates are very inexpensive and include a light breakfast.
The Perak Hotel has laundry services, a business centre which includes internet access. They will make all your tour bookings and flight reservations and are very helpful with any kind of service or information you require. There is a small sitting area with books on Singapore along with the usual tourist guides, magazines and newspapers and tea and coffee are complimentary in the breakfast area all day.
The hotel offers standard, superior, deluxe and triple rooms and all have breakfast included in the rate. The rooms are not huge and simply decorated but all you need with colour TV, air conditioning, bathrooms, electronic safe and most have mini refrigerators and tea/coffee facilities.
On my last stay in Singapore I decided to go completely different to the usual hotels I would stay at in and around Orchard Road and stay at a small and cosier type accommodation with more atmosphere around it. I chose the Perak Hotel (formerly known as Perak Lodge). It was small and inexpensive compared to most. The Perak is a restored shophouse and is family owned so there is more of a personal touch. It is also in the heart of Little India with a short walk to the Bugus Junction MRT and the Arab Street area.
Hotel Intercontinental is found in the Bugis area within walking distance of Arab Street and Orchard Road. The hotel opened in 1995 and has incorporated the Peranakan style in its design. It was voted in the Top 7 best business hotels in the world in 2004.
The hotel offers 403 rooms and suites. These range from luxury suites to shop-house rooms in the Peranakan style, business rooms and deluxe rooms. There is cable/satellite t.v., mini bar and fridge, morning newspapers and a24 hr business centre. The suites and Executive Club level also has a complimentary buffet breakfast included in the rate. There is a fitness centre, spa facilities and a outdoor swimming pool.
The Golden Landmark Hotel is very close to Arab Street, Little India and the Bugis MRT station. The hotel rooms have broadband access, flat screen TV, minibar/fridge, aircon and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a swimming pool, restaurant as well as room service from 6.30am to 11.30pm.
The hotel offers standard rooms, family rooms (which sleep 3 to 4) , student rooms (which have 4 beds) and superior rooms. There is airconditioning, fridge, tea/coffee making, TV, hair dryers and bathrooms. Some rooms have safe’s. The hotel also offers swimming pool, a gymnasium, snooker room and a cyber café which is on the 4th floor.
A 3 star boutique type hotel which is good value for money. Since its opening, the hotel has had a good reputation overall for comfort, cleanliness, helpful staff and its quiet despite being near a busy intersection. Each room has aircon plus a ceiling fan, mini bar, tea/coffee making, hair dryer, TV. with inhouse movies and a personal safe. The hotel has a bar and restaurant as well as a gymnasium, steam room and spa. Close to Little India and Bugis Village.
The Rendezvous Hotel is only a 3 minute walk to Orchard Road and features an original facade. They offer superior, deluxe, premier and the Plaza Club rooms. All rooms have an in room safe, mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities. On level 3 there is a swimming pool as well as a fitness centre. Dining at the hotel includes the Straits Café, Gourmet Gallery and the Palong Lobby Bar. You can also get 24 hr room service or choose to try the food court next to the hotel for a less expensive option.
This hotel is a less expensive alternative and caters for the budget tourist. I’m told the rooms are fairly small and maybe a little cramped with budget type facilities but you wouldn’t expect anything more at the price. Close to Little India, Bugis Village and the MRT. There is a rooftop swimming pool and other facilities such as safe deposit boxes, internet facilities and laundry are available
