Asian city accommodation
by GitaP about Find the best rates
Online accommodation sites provide a great way to benchmark what a city's accommodation rates are in relation to ratings, location etc. I always check www.agoda.com; hotels.com; bookings.com, wofit, hotelrooms.com to start a list of possible choices and prices based on where I want to be located. Another consideration I take in is the length of the stay. For shorter 2/3 day visits, it is better to be central and close to public transport hubs and while you may pay a little more, you can cram in exciting things to do. After you have narrowed down your choices, make your bookings through a site like bookings.com or hotels.com that donnot charge cancellation fees except if you don't show and donnot cancel before the stipulated date. In Singapore, hotels are pricier than in other cities like Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur but there are a number of cheap hotels and decent in the Balestier Rd area (nearest station Novena) but lots of bus stations along the road. I have just booked the Aqueen hotel for July for about US$86 per night but you cna find hotels rooms from US$40.

not pricey place to stay
by enail
hi all! heard that hotels in SG are quite pricey. Just wanna inquire if you know any hotels/motels/inns that are cheap but clean and accessible. We'll be staying in SG for 2D2N only and will be on the road most of the time so luxurious hotels are not our priority. thanx alwayz!

Last time i stayed in backpack hostel near Mustafa Center. The name of the hostel is Empire Hostel. Cheap price.
But dont expect too much for hostel backpack. At least you still can take a sleep there.
Anyway, you can book your room from the website such as www.hostelworld.com. Plenty hostel you can choose from there.
ok.. enjoy your holiday

Just be warned- some of the Budget Hotels in Singapore are a bit dodgy- which is why they are called Budget.
I would recommend trying Wotif website- many good bargains available online.
They are dodgy because many smell very mouldy, are not in great areas, have cockroaches, and many are 'hired out by the hour' if you understand what I mean?
Having said that- I am sure that there are a few that are liveable. Good luck, I hope you get lucky.
Where do we watch the FIFA World Cup Semi finals ?
by GitaP
We will be in Singapore on 7 July, the night of the 2nd semi-finals. It ill be screened at 2.30 am (SA is 6 hrs behind). We could watch it at the hotel - we're staying at Aqueen Balestier but would prefer to watch it with other football fans? Any suggestions? I understand Balestier is off the beaten track - so easy access would be great.

Of course there is a place for football fans. Chijmes is one of the best options. On basement level, they will set up a big screen and you can watch your games there. Other options are Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area. We watched Euro 2008 in Chijmes and it was great fun. Check out my Singapore page for details.

pls help on hotel
by delacruz_maybelyn
hi guys! my brother, his wife and their 3 year old daughter will be in Singapore on Aug 16-19. Can you help me find a good budget hotel for them (S$150/night or less)? A decent sized room, clean, near an MRT and as much as possible away from the red light district since they are traveling with a child would be perfect. I'm looking at aqueen lavender, beach hotel and hotel 81 tristar. has anyone ever stayed in these hotels? any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at the Furama City Centre, which was reasonably priced at the time and also within close proximity to Chinatown and the MRT. Great location!

Thank, Johan!I checked the Furama City Center website and learned that an average nightly stay would cost around SGD300. That's beyond my bro's budget already. Thanks for replying, though.

Funny, we were there last year and it did not cost nearly that much! However, I think we got the accommodation through Singapore Airlines, which probably accounts for the cheaper price.

There are quite a couple of hotels in Joo Chiat Area and the nearest to the MRT would be Hotel Tristar. It is one of the highest rates among Hotel 81 hotels.
It is about 5 - 10mins walking distance from Paya Lebar MRT. Anyway, most of them are quite near to each other.
Btw, it is also the fasting month for the muslim and there will be night market around that area, so get them to start dieting now!
