Prices
by GeorgeJCL
Hello, I'd like to ask you for advise. I might be going to Singapore in some weeks because of my job and I don't really know if it really worths it to buy there or not. I've been gathering information and I know the advises and the best places but I have no idea about the prices! Do you know more or less which could be the price (in a normal shop, without spending to much time comparing) of, for example, a 2.000$ Canon EOS 5D, or a 900 $ computer?
Thank you very much!

Head for the Mustafa Centre in Little India for good deals. Prices beat KL, or anywhere in Malaysia hands down.

The only thing to be aware of is that warranties are supplied by the local (national) distributor and are not recognized internationally. If you buy a camera or laptop in Singapore, don't count on warranty service when you get home, if this matters to you.

Yes, Mustafa Centre at Serangoon Road (accessible by Farrer Park MRT Station, buses, taxis) has good prices.
For cost comparison, we can view prices over at Singapore on:
www.hardwarezone.com.sg
for computers, notebooks and other computer related accessories.
Need to consider whether it comes with international warranty for products you are buying and bringing back home.
Travel Tips for Singapore
Is location important?
by agc
Hi,
Singapore is small and public transportation is world-class, hence it really doesn't matter where you stay because once you hop on the MRT or the bus, everything thing is so near.
There is a Backpackers' Hostel in Woodlands(north of Singapore). It is very near to the zoo compared to hotels in the city. The name is Hostel OneSixSix -or something like that.
The MRT (Metro, tube, subway) from the airport to the city costs less than S$3. That is your cheapest option to boot.

Singapore is a "fine" city
by SLLiew
Any visitor to Singapore will be impressed by the cleanliness, orderliness and general working convenience of public facilities.
Singapore over the years has been known for hefty fines for littering, jaywalking, not flushing, no chewing gum, no graffiti, no loitering, etc.
Yet it is still a show stoper to see this sign of no bicycling in this pedestrian tunnel under the bridge. So if you are riding, you must get off and push your bike.
It is a small personal sacrifice for overall public good. So when in Singapore, do as the Singaporeans do. Avoid behavior to avoid the fine because Singapore is a fine city.
Try the durian
by trisanna
I am not a durian lover, but when i first came here, a friend of mine introduced me to this foul smelling fruit. I tried it with resignation. It has a creamy texture (sort of like a pudding), but the smell is hard to put off.
In southeast asia, the durian is one of the more popular fruits. They even have various grading proceedures-with the higher grades costing much more. When you go into most Singapore food stores, such as Cold Storage you will see the Durian hawker calling out the best prices. When the store is about to close-you can get the best prices.
If you are scared away by the durian and most are. There are much easier ways to try the spiky fruit. There are durian candy, durian crepes, ice cream-there is one stall at the Takashimaya food court that sells various durian sweets.
May want to bring a light sweater/jumper
by trisanna
The average daily temperature is around 32 c. or 95 degrees f. If you plan to go into any shopping centers for any length of time- you may want a sweater. The airconditioning in Singapore's shopping centers is quite strong. After being in a movie theater-you could be quite stiff and uncomfortable from the cold air.
