Copthorne Kings Hotel

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 7, 2013

We stayed for 5 nights at the Copthorne Kings Hotel and I have forgotton what the room rates were. We booked a Club room which we were very disappointed in so we only lasted about 5 minutes in this room.

It was small with two single beds, one chair to sit on which is useless for 2 people and no tables and chairs on the tiny balcony. I went to reception and asked to have a look at their Executive Suite which was a lot nicer with a seperate lounge, dining area, a big bedroom with a very comfortable king size bed, 2 televisions and 2 balconies one of which had a table and chairs. I think it was a few hundred dollars more to upgrade to the Suite but it was well worth it.

We really liked the location of Copthorne Kings as it is walking distance to Chinatown, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay. The Club Lounge is very small with a nice outdoor seating area and a reasonable selection of food and drinks,

It was very quiet for the five nights we were here but that suited us fine, I have to mention the staff in the Club Lounge were excellent, very friendly and helpful, we actually looked forward to seeing them each day.

So we were happy with our stay at Copthorne Kings, once we had changed rooms but I would class it as a 3 star hotel not 4 star as is on their website.

Singapore's nice hotel

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on November 18, 2009

Millenium & Copthorne International has a good reputation so I booked a twin room for 3 nights when I travelled there with my father.

Room is spacious (the beds are not narrow as in other hotels), bathroom amenities are sufficient and most importantly, although there are many guests in the hotel, the employees make sure that no trespassers (or possible thieves) roam around.

The hotel is not really near the subway stations (Chinatown and Outram Park) but if you like to walk then it's totally fine because rooms are quiet and clean.

Unique Quality: Its restaurant, Princess Terrace, is said to provide the best buffet in Singapore. We tried the dinner and we enjoyed the food a lot! I actually liked the desserts which are prepared while you eat. If you like seafoods, shrimps are a plenty.

There's a small a la carte corner. The crew members are very attentive which made our stay worthwhile.

Live singing at the opposite side of the restaurant where you can also order foods and drinks.

Taxis are a plenty. You need not book one to get to the airport or to the city centre.

Directions: From and to the airport, please take a cab. To go to the centre, you need a map (which are available free of charge at Changi Airport).

Middle Class Hotel near River

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on August 26, 2007

This is a good middle class hotel only 10 minutes walk from Clarke Quay, the rooms are nice and clean with views over the river. We didn't make use of the swimming pool but it looked nice.
Breakfast was ok as well, some Japanese food as well as Chinese, noodles, eggs in variations and the usual bread, jam and fresh fruit variety.

This hotel used to be Novotel Orchid Singapore but now changed management to Copthorne Orchid Hotel.

Have stayed here a few times because this where Malaysian Airlines coach from Senai airport, Johor, Malaysia will drop off passengers flying in Senai and wanting to continue to Singapore.

As it is not walking distance to Orchard Road, have to take a taxi to get there. Quite environment with Asian theme restaurant that is worth checking out.

Great value for money

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

Away from the touristy Orchard Road and the glitzy Central Business District the Copthorne Kings is situated in a quiet corner of the Singapore river.

Rooms are spacious and clean; amenities are ample and they provide free shuttle to Orchard Road (it's about 10 minutes bus ride). I enjoyed walking along the river in the morning and catching the subway at Clarke Quay.

Unless you need to be close to the CBD you will enjoy their favourable rates and with the abundance of taxi's in Singapore I never had any problem getting into CBD in time.

Directions: At the end of the river; about 10 minutes on foot West of Chinatown

a good base

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 27, 2006

A nice hotel, and a good base for Singapore. its not close to a MRT (5 mins in taxi) but taxis are cheap and there is a free bus to orchad rd and china town. The hotel is close to the Singapore river and you can take a nice walk along it into clarke quay (15 mins) for a good choice of restaurants and bars.
For breakfast most things are on offer, toast, cerial, eggs cooked to you likeing, fruit, tea coffe, etc.
Rooms are not very big in the main part of the hotel and are smaller still in the tower rooms, however they are clean and comfortable. must note that we had a joining room and with the joining doors it made the rooms very noisy, i had to go next door twice to tell the people in the next room to be quiet. not sure how the none ad-joining rooms fair?
The main rooms have baconies but due to the hotel upgrade in 2004 there is very little space on them (no room for chairs)
The penang buffet evening meal was very popular, we did not eat there but every evening when we got back to the hotel the restaurant was always full.
The hotel has a very nice pool area which is very quiet in the day, we stayed for 3 weeks and on most days there was only us around the pool. it may not suite everyone but it was great for us. there is also a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. there is also a small fitness center.
Over all would highly recomend this hotel, its a good base to expore Singapore and is no to far from the quays. before we arrived i email the hotel and made some requests, and on arriving and those request were met. (top marks)
There are better hotels in singapore, but for the room rate The Copthonre Kings is a hard hotel to beat.

Good Value Hotel near Singapore River

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

We stayed in the Copthorne Kings Hotel for the 2 nights of our Stop-Over with Singapore Airlines. This was the only hotel offered by the package tour organizer we booked the flight and this stop over but it was worth it.

It is a 3 1/2 star hotel. Its location is still quite good (only approx. 3 to 5 kms from the center) and it offers everything we needed. Breakfast buffet in the morning (not overwhelming but o.k.) and a nice Swimming Pool, where one can relax after somewhat exhausting sightseeing tours.

The rooms are nicely furnished but we were not very lucky though and got a non-balcony room. Not to worry, as it was only for 2 nights. I assume, we would have received one on insisting but we did not bother.

We arrived very early in the morning ( 8 h) and the good thing was, that we were able to move to our room straight away, not having to wait until normal check-in time(at 14.00 h). A definite PLUS after a 13 hours long flight, which enables one to jump under the shower, get fresh and have a whole day free ahead in Singapore/Sentosa (instead of waiting for one's room to become free and cleaned and only after that being able to store one's luggage! Definitely a better solution!).

Unique Quality: We paid only approx. 81 Euro per person for a 2-nights-Stop-Over inclusive breakfast buffet and a half day sightseeing tour (via a package tour organizer here in Germany where we also booked all our flights). The hotel is not direct in the center but quite near (3 to 5 kms - not sure!) and it is opposite the Singapore River, just a (big) street and another hotel in between them. Nice walks along the river (also in direction center) are possible!

Directions: approx. 3-5 kms up, near the western bank of Singapore River.
