Visiting singapore for one day on the 25 Dec 2010

by gemma2010

Please help.

My partner and I are due to fly into Singapore airport on 25 Dec at 8am and our outbound flight to bali is not until 18.35...as this is Christmas day I am desperate for advice on how we can fill our day to make it as enjoyable as possible. Couple of questions?

Can we leave the airport during the transit time 08.00 - 18.35 or will we need to stay in the airport (flying Quantas)?
Do we need a visa to leave the airport for just one day?
Will everything in Singapore be operating as normal on Christmas day or does everything close?
Can you recommend an activity, or resturants to book on this day?

Any help is much appreciated!!!

I'm afraid no-one can help you directly with the visa part of your question unless we know your citizenship. Who you are flying with and where you come from/are going are irrelevant; it is your citizenship that matters.

However, chances are that you will not need a visa. You can check by looking at the UK Singaporean High Commission page:

http://www.mfa.gov.sg/london/

Click 'consular services' on the right-hand menu, then 'visa requirements for entry into Singapore'.

Or you can look at the Singaporean embassy/High Commission website for your own country (although the rules will be the same).

You can leave the airport...........if you have a day visit visa.
Go directly to Clarke Quay or Boat Quay, which is on the Singapore River.
There are great walks along the river, and lovely restuarants.
I am sure that the restuarants will be open- not too sure about the shops.
However, the usual street markets around the river will be operating.

Without knowing your citizenship, no advice no visa is possible.

Ohter beautiful places include Marina Bay Area , Sentosa (Harbourfront, Vivocity & Sentosa itself), Orchard Road (mainly shopping & restaurant)and many more. Tourist maps are easily available at the airport itself.

Getting to most tourist spots is easy with the subway from the airport itself and back again to the airport.

Hello
Not sure about Christmas day but inside the airport you can sign up for a free tour in Singapore. They have 2 tours so decide which is best for you and how long you want to be on the tour. Then just sit back and relax and let them show you the way. You dont have to worry about anything. I will be in Singapore next week and will get more info about Dec. 25.

Travel Tips for Singapore

SERENITY BY THE RIVER

by Onedragon

SOMETHING I ENJOY IN ANY PLACE IS SITTING ON THE BANKS OF THE RIVER AND WATCHING THE WORLD PASS BY..TO ME SITTING THERE AND ENJOYING THE PEACEFULNESS OF THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS....AND SINGAPORES' RIVERBANKS IS ONE OF THE PLACES TO ENJOY ANY SERENITY... WISHING I COULD HAVE SEEN SOMEONE THAT I WANTED TO SEE......

Visit Orchard Road.

Visit Orchard Road. The sidewalk is always clean and shiney and very well maintained.
It's an 'alive' place with people going everywhere, but you feel very safe and clean here. I really liked it.

Raffles

by BlueBeth

Ok, so this is more a tourist custom than a local custom but it is traditional when in the Long Bar at Raffles to eat peanuts from the shell and then throw the shells on the floor.
It goes against everything you're taught from a very early age about food but you are actively encouraged to do so.
Huge sacks of peanuts are dragged around the place to fill up the boxes of nuts on each table and along the bar.

'Akad Nikah' Ceremony

by imran8852

The actual wedding ceremony is the 'Akad Nikah' which solemnize the marriage followed by the 'Kenduri Doa’ Selamat' (prayers and feast for everyone invited) The 'bersanding' ceremony is optional, some people don't practice it anymore.

LOOKING FOR A HOTEL

by Onedragon

THIS IS NOT KNOWN AS A SPORT BUT MAYBE IT COULD BE WHEN YOU REALLY HAVEN'T ARRANGED BEFORE HAND TO GET A PLACE TO STAY AND SLEEP AT...??????
WHAT I RECOMMEND...AS I FOUND OUT BY A KIND GENTLEMAN THAT WORKED AT CHANGI AIRPORT ..IS TO GO TO THE INFORMATION DESK AND AS THEM TO FIND ON THEIR COMPUTER A PLACE TO STAY IN YOUR PRICE RANGE...THEN THEY ALSO CAN ARRANGE AND INEXPENSIVE WAY TO GET TO THE LOCATION !!! PRETTY GOOD ..HUH!!! THAT COMPUTER SHOWS ALL THE PLACES .. PLUS HE WILL ARRANGE THE RESERVATION RIGHT THERE AND THEN AND WHEN YOU ARRIVE YOU JUST PRESENT YOUR RECEIPT AND YOU HAVE A ROOM .... VERY COOL !!!!!RIGHT ON CHANGI AIRPORT !!!!!!!! MONEY !! HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!
