hi there .. about your hotel, it depends on how much you'd like to spend .. there are newer hotels nearby bencoolen hotel such as ibis or others with affordable price .. and i think bugis junction mrt station is closer to those hotels.

Hi, my fren and I went to this so call "IDEAL backpacker house", wow..is not recommended,guys..we stay for a night which make us felt the night was so long. The room, toilet is small, dirty, messy, smelly and also noisy.
and the price is not cheap(compare to guest house at korea). We don't expect more from them since it is a backpacker house as long as is clean.we are very disappointed. For those who looking for an inexpensive hotel should go hotel fragrance, they have more than 10 branches.

Travel Tips for Singapore

Get a hotel near an MRT (subway) station

by xtephen

Singapore is really easy to get around, with a top-notch public transportation system. When I stayed, I made the mistake of picking a hotel far away from an MRT station and ended up having to walk quite a bit. The walking didnt bother me, but the lost time did.

The closer your hotel is to an MRT station, the better. Its worth paying extra.

Once you are in Singapore, look for the North-East line (its purple on the maps). The north-east line goes thu some of the bigger tourist destinations. China Town, Little India, Clark Quay, Harbor Front (Which is where you go to reach Sentosa island)

Distances

by diageva

One of my big mistakes when I arrived to this beautiful city is that I didn't count with so big avenues ... and that to crose a road .. was to crose a big avenue having to go a big distance to crosse it ... and that if you where wrong direction ... you will have to walk a great way back... so if you in the MRT be sure to get outside from the corect door.
Inside Chinatown and Little India ... things are diferent ... you have normal walk distances.

Signs..

by yuet29

Singapore is obedient, very systematic, and of course productive.. You can see signs everyway reminding you what to take note, what to do and what cannot be done etc..

use the underpass, use handrail, watch out for your head, keep left, ect ect..

May need Umbrella Anytime

by Amar_kirale

Umbrella or rain gear should be handy if you are visiting Singapore. Weather in Singapore changes very quickly and that too without warning. Though there is nothing to worry as such because the rains in SG are not heavy. It almost rains throughout the year but most of the time its in the form of mild showers which lasts for few minutes.

TELOK BLANGAH HILL PARK

by Bonobo2005

Still off the beaten track, but by end 2007 connected with the tourist hot spots Mt. Faber as well as Kent Ridge Park, is the historically significant Telok Blangah Hill Park.

Surrounded by mostly residential area - unsurprisingly - , it is a very peaceful and quiet Park, at least when I visited. On the summit of the Hill is a garden terrace, covered with beautiful flowers and there's a sheltered sitting area. Several benches are planted, from where you can catch a bit of a breeze and an interesting view over the nearby green and high rise (it is NOT a 360 degrees view as advertised on the NP website, since part is obscured by trees).

Another signposted feature is the Stream Garden. The 40cm wide streams and the 20 cm high waterfalls possibly wouldn't draw your special attention if you didn't know it was a Stream Garden. But if you follow this route downhill - after starting from the junction at Henderson Road- you end up at a main road where you easily can stop a taxi.

Maybe not the first or second park of choice, it's a nice place for a bit of exercise and a bit of relaxing. For instructions of getting there, you can visit the NP Board website as below, but it's far easier to take a taxi (approx. SGD 6 from town - outside peak hours )!
