Rent a Car in Singapore
by cathandria
I am planning to drive from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. Is there any other nice sites along the drive that i should take note once I leave Singapore. Btw, its safe to drive to Kuala Lumpur right?

It's a very straight forward route. But check with your car rental company about cross border insurance, etc (assuming you are renting a car). Stop at Malacca on the way, it's a historical town.

if I were you I would hire a car in Malesia.. less troubles and much less paper work beside getting a car rented in Singapore it might cost much more then taking a flight to KL.

You should consider a VIP Bus, they have one with very large seats, and the one I took had power for my lap top. You can go from downtown to downtown, and it is more convenient than even flying. I always go this route. Way less hastle.
Travel Tips for Singapore
Foreign currency exchange in Singapore
by bkarjee
Currency exchange are spread all over Singapore and you get excellant rates. Dont exchange your foreign currency at Changi airport, although there are by the dozens there. You will find it specially in and around the city area (Orchard road, Little India, Chinatown). Every shopping mall will undoubtedly have one. So far, I have got best rates in Mustafa at Syed Alwi road, off Serangoon road(Near Little India)
A light meal/breakfast at one of the fast food or a food court will cost you anything between S$5-8. But most of the hotel in Singapore will provide you with free breakfast. It is a part of the room tariff.
Hope this helps
where to keep your bag?
by just_chill
Because of security reasons, S'pore doesn't have public places to put/store your heavy bags while u r travelling. For instance, in Japan, every railway station has lockers. U can find such place in Changi Airport but that is not always helpful. I had to check out from hotel before noon, but my flight was in the early morning next day only. I had a full day to travel, but with my bags, that was not easy. I talked with my hotel (Hotel 81 Palace) and they were kind enough to keep my bags (until I picked them) even after I checked out from the hotel, and that also without any cost. So if u have same problem, u can consult your hotel if they could help u.
Materialism
by phil_uk_net
Singapore, like Miami Beach and the Kings Road in London, has a disproportionately high number of performance cars on the road. In Singapore even mid-range European luxury cars are about 300,000 SGD so I hate to think what these beasts cost. The accumulation of wealth and material things though, and the conspicuous display of wealth, is of extreme importance to Singaporeans. Flashy mobile phones, designer clothes, Rolex watches and luxury cars are what it's all about here.
Geylang Lor 41 conservation houses
by trees100ft
Geylang is well known for its seedier activity. But things are stirring at one end of Geylang, specifically at Lorong 41. The row of pre-war houses have just been restored to its original beauty. These pre-war heritage houses seem to attract a certain type of Caucasian and Asian expatriates. It is considered hip to live in one of these houses. Most residents furnished their homes with Indonesian colonial furniture, regional Chinese antiques.
Other districts known for their conservation homes -- Emerald Hill, Spottiswoode Park, Keong Siak St, Ann Siang Hill, Cairnhill, Petain Road, Niven Road and Kim Yam Road (River Valley).
Everything can be bought here!!!

Wear T-shirt and short sleeve shirt. Long sleeve shirt and jacket look weird here because of the hot weather. Bring your swimcloth if you want to swim or sunbath. Almost everything can be bought here.
