Excursions to Singapore or Malaysia from Singapore

by mydreamquest

Are there any tourist friendly places within a 2 hour boat ride to Indonesia from Singapore? I'm thinking a place to visit, where the people are friendly, speak some English, and offer any sort of fun attraction whether a casino, family park, or something interesting like beautiful surroundings or beach with good food.

Same question applies for Malaysia.

For Malaysia or Singapore, would it be possible to briefly spend time in either place in a day?

The Malaysian state of Johor is just a bridge (known as the Causeway) away from Singapore and there are frequent coach and bus services. Alternatively, taxis are available to ferry you to and fro.

There are now two casinos in Singapore and the Sentosa Resort World is operated by the Malaysian casino operator Genting.

Hope the info is of help. Selamat Datang (welcome) if you make your way to Malaysia.

you can catch a ferry to Indonesia - Bintan or Batam from Singapore as well. Can't gamble, but there are some beaches. Bintan is isolated and resortified while Batam is a bit more local. English is not an issue in either Indo or Malaysia.

The last time I was in Singapore I took a ferry for a day trip to Batam. Looked around, did a little shopping and got a good foot massage. As an American you'll have to go through customs both ways and buy a visa on arrival in Batam. Very simple.

Travel Tips for Singapore

Walk Walk Walk

by Rinjani

Singapore can be proud to be known as Garden City. Mostly, you will walk under shadow of trees where you can be protected from the sun. If you don’t carry heavy shopping bags, walking is very comfortable. If you plan to go to Singapore, it is recommended wear as comfy footwear as possible. Mostly, you will end up walking everywhere.

Singapore Visitors Centre

by trisanna

Singapore has a very active and agressive tourist board. They have locations throughout the city and at the airport. A year ago, they opened this large visitor's centre on Orchard Road. It's across from the Heeren (HMV) shopping centre. At night, you can't miss it with it's bright lights that change colors.

They can hook you up with things to do while you are here or with tours. For special events, such as performances, theater, or music-head to a sistic outlet. One location is at the information centre at Wisma Atria shopping centre.

The Chinese Funeral Procession

by imran8852

The Chinese funeral ceremony and the procession of the dead depends upon the financial resources of the family. The burial of the dead is a very serious matter to the Chinese, they believe that improper funeral arrangements will cause bad fortune.
Special clothing must be worn by the family members of the deceased. The children and daughters-in-law wear black with a sackcloth hood while the grandchildren wear blue.

Chingay Parade 2005

by imstress

The Chingay Parade 2005 was held on 19 Feb.

I was in Orchard Road since 6pm. It was to be held at 8pm.

We went in search of many places just to have an excellent view of the parade.

there were many floats which passes by.
Since it is the Year of Rooster, we saw many chicks, hen and a big Rooster Float.

Watch Singapore League Football Match

by dixonchan

If you have extra days to spend on alternate activities, try catching a S-League match. It is the only professional football league in Singapore.

However, do not expect great stuffs similar to the English Premiership or La Liga.

The season lasts from Feburary to October.

Check out www.sleague.com for more information Wear light and prepare umbrellas or raincoats if you decide to sit on the roofless part of the stadium.
