Last minute surprise

We ended up staying here after a late night out in the area, and we were too tired to drive home. As we only needed a bed to crash on, we chose a Gallery room, which is smaller than the usual rooms that we stay in when we travel. But the beds were comfortable (there were some colourful cushions present, but we would have preferred extra pillows), there were bedroom slippers, flat screen television, and a very interesting frosted glass panel instead of a wall separating the shower/toilet from the bedroom. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, despite us stumbling in at 3 in the morning. In fact, I think they were quite patient with us while we decided which room we wanted (to splurge or to be practical). This place doesn’t really fall in to the “budget”, “3-star”, “boutique” or “luxury” categories. But it is nice enough for a different kind of hotel experience.

Design and Location

The Gallery Hotel is a special hotel with emphasis on modern design. Most of the rooms have been designed by different architects/artists, so the (more expensive) rooms can have a very special look. We chose the less expensive category, but the room was nevertheless very modern and well equipped.
We were quite impressed by the service, upon check-in we were accompanied by one of the staff ladies to our room, on the way she explained all the facilities like restaurants, internet access, pool etc. to us.
The "bell boy" also helped us with our flight reconfirmation, we gave him the details and within short we had a message in our room with all the information needed, including check-in time, contact numbers etc.

Unique Quality: The location of this hotel is great, it is situated directly at the river at Robertson Quay, it's only 5 to 10 minutes to Clarke Quay and there is a very good choice of restaurants round the corner (which was good for us as we arrived late in the evening and it was raining heavily!).

Some Good, Some Bad, but overpriced

The Gallery Hotel ambitiously presents itself as a (post)-modern styled designer hotel that should ease and excite you. Maybe that applies to the common areas and the USD300+ priced exclusive boutique rooms, but we found the so called Gallery-room (SGD 195 nett = USD125 promotional rate) that we stayed in nothing special - both in terms of trendiness and quality - and rather overpriced compared to similarly priced rooms elsewhere in Singapore.

Some more remarks:

1. Most disturbing is the poor sound isolation of the doors to the corridor. Highlight of the night was when hotel staff loudly started argueing with two Chinese couples that were not happy with their aircons. That over a distance of two rooms, on the corridor, at 1 am!

2. We had an explosion in the room during the night while charging a battery (something with the wires). On the positive side, a maintenance guy appeared within 2 minutes after we reported it.

3. Rooms are small for the price range but clean except for the outer side of the window that was terrible

4. Receptionists not always helpful. Before checking in, I requested look at a room first, which they refused due to all rooms still occupied. When I mentioned 2 rooms for 3 nights suddenly it was no prob.

Unique Quality: On the positive side:
1. Top 10 best showers I ever had.
2. Top 3 best waitresses outfits I've ever seen at breakfast buffets.
3. A very decent range of amenities in the room and well working control panel.
4. Good location if you don't want to stay in Orchard Road Area.

The breakfast buffet was average while the size of the swimming pool -although quite cool experience - was slighty less than that.

Despite these stronger points, I won't book in the Gallery Hotel Singapore again - speaking only for the lowest priced rooms. I do appreciate the modern arty overall ambience but then I prefer a higher quality of the room at a lower price.
I can always go and just have a drink at the Gallery Hotel anyway...after all I'm living just around the corner!!

The Gallery Hotel

The Gallery Hotel is awesome!!!! Ultra modern and very trendy, and arty too!!! The entrance/foyer is rather small in comparison to many other hotels, but that's no big deal. It's still nice and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful (both on reception, and the concierge desk too)!

The rooms are of a standard size, but very clean, new, and trendy looking. And the glass doors on the bathrooms are very trendy too. Not an overly exciting view from a standard room, but that's to be expected. The view of the clean, arty room was enough for me!!

All the basics are provided, shavng kit, toothbrush & toothpaste, soaps, shampoo's etc... to a very high standard. Now here's where the good part kicks in...... the breakfast!!!!!!! What can I say?! Extraordinary..... very, VERY tasty breakfast buffet. Among the best I've EVER had. A wide selection of usual foods, eggs (cooked specially to your liking), sausages (the BEST chicken sausages I have EVER tasted), a large variety of differnt types of breads (wholemeal, white, multi grain, rolls, croissants, etc....), hash browns, baked beans.... etc... you name it, they had it! And everything was delicious too!!! Then there were the fresh fruits, cereals, juices, pastries, noodles, yoghurts.... etc.... EVERYTHING!! And it was all of a 5 star standard, along with the exceptional service!!!!

Unique Quality: Yes, I know... I did go on about the food..... but it was sensational!!! I will definitely be returning to this hotel on my next visit to Singapore... if not only for the food!!! Yum Yum!!!

And what's unique..... the pool. It's kind of haging over the side of the hotel, and has a glass bottom and sides. So oyu can see down to the street through the pool!!! It's awesome, and extremely unique!!! Well worth the visit!!!!

There is also another lounge type eating area for during the day, and a restaurant located downstairs too (outside), along with an outdoor type bar, patio area which is great at night.... and also it's own nightclub!! Liquid!!!

What else?? It's situated right on the river.... so it's a lovely view outside!! Along with some nice gardens around the back too!!! Oh yeah... and free internet access in the lounge too!!!

This hotel comes highly recommended from me, and I will be staying there on my next visit!! Very happy!!! It may not be in Orchard Road district for shopping.... but within walking distance to the trendy night spot of Clarke Quay!!! Usually went out for dinner there, and walked back to the hotel!!!!

The Gallery Hotel is excellent!!!!!!

Gallery Hotel

Great place, room had a slight smell of cigarettes. Took about 10/15minutes to walk along the river into the center of town.

Unique Quality: Worth a visit if only to look at the pool - which hangs out over the side of the building with glass bottom and sides.

Stay AWAY!

We booked this hotel at asiarooms.com, and it's a decision we will regret for a while. We decided to book The Glazzhaus, which is a step above the standard. Looking forward to staying at a hotel as 'funky' as the gallery, we found that although the lobby is spankingly clean and funkily designed, one only needed to get to the rooms. Peeling, dirty and musty-smelling carpets in the corridors, wall paint peeling off, newpaper racks hanging off hooks on their last threads. But these are only the sights during the walk to one's room. The concierge (or whoever, seemed to us like he was a multi-tasking employee with various job-profiles including waiting on tables...) opens the door...uh...barely missing the corner of our queen-size bed. So pulling luggage in -somehow- we are looking for place to put it on....but there is none! Walking around the bed while the door is open was a bit if a juggling experience, for starters. As you can imagine, everything was cramped, and the bathroom, tiled 'stylishly' in gray -or was it black?- lacks any character, as does the room. The curtains are stained, the woodwork is coming away in layers, the room smells musty and totally lacking ventilation, and oh...I could go on. (I think the only openable vents were in the bathroom!)
The breakfast is lack-lustre (you'd do much better getting out and heading for any of the road-side stalls that offer a delectable variety of foods for any time of day), and the much harped-about swimming pool with glass walls is...err...only transparent from the walls. the water itself is a grimy green. ewww.
DO NOT believe ANY of the good comments out on the internet, please. The Gallery Hotel needs a HUGE overhaul, and the place, honestly, has a lot of potential. Just NOT in the state it is in, now. I can't deny that it has elements of it's chic-'ness' from the days gone by (you can tell by the design concept still maintained in the restaurant on the first floor and in the lobby), but it's gone now. Need I say more.

Unique Quality: This is what the hotel thinks about itself....the stuff we got sold on:

The Gallery Hotel, right beside the Singapore river on Robertson Quay, you will find Singapore's first and only "beyond the ordinary" hotel, The Gallery. The unconventional, exciting architectural design of the building at Robertson Quay has created much interests from the general public. For example, the pool is a cantilevered lap pool with its bottom partially exposed, situated at the top of the building with three sides of glass wall. The swimming pool, a sky oasis is evocative of serenity and calmness amidst the lush greeneries. Window frames on some parts of the hotel are in vivid colours and at night the innovative lighting accentuates the structure.

A Gallery it is.

This modern minimalist designed hotel is anything from minimal. There is plenty o see and ponder over as you stroll through this steel, concerte and glass structure. It's a nice quaint hotel set in a very convenient location.

The Glazzrooms are spacious with a great panaramic view. The bathroom is a bit steely and cold. But once again, it's all about being modern.

The pool is small but a great place to hangout. The gym is surprisingly large and well equiped. The breakfast buffet is standard and acceptable.

Although we had a small issue when checking in, the over all hotelling experience was a good.

The Gallery Hotel

Hello All,

Is the Gallery Hotel as nice and hip as it seems online?

Many Thanks

Hi

Gallery is a boutique hotel and is located around River Valley Road. It's very close to the clubbing belt, known as "Mohammed Sultan Rd".

If you are looking for serious clubbing and some good drinking, you are in the right zone.

I wouldn't say that Gallery Hotel is very near orchard Road, but it's pretty fast to get to town around by taxi, around 5 mins i would say.

Overall it's a cool hotel.

Enjoy your stay.

Quite hip. But the rooms are REALLY TINY!

Honestly, it is. They've got one of the coolest swimming pool in town. A highrise thingy with glass panels all around. Yup, you can actually see the going-ons on the streets when you swim there.
