Great hotel with a nice view
Right next to Arab Street, and very close to some huge shopping malls you'll find the Golden Landmark Hotel. More than 20 floors high, and with so many rooms that one wouldn't think it was possible.
In a Singapore that seems to specialise on expensive hotel rooms, the Golden Landmark Hotel is a very nice place to stay. Paid about 70 euro/night for a single room, which actually was a double room (two single beds).
The room was huge, and the view from the 11th floor was just fantastic. Very good space in the bathroom too, and unlike the other hotel (see other tip) I stayed at in Singapore on this trip one wouldn't have to take off the socks when entering the bathroom.
Breakfast wasn't included, but could be bought at an extra. Didn't feel it was worth more than 10 euro/day though, so I opted to go out and eat in the area instead. Or, as I have the best girlfriend who brought me breakfast when she stopped by from work, just stay in the room and have it there.
There is a nice swimming pool, although I never got the chance to try it. The restaurant is on the same floor, and has a nice menu. Never tried it though, as the hotel were so full of people that they actually served guests out in the hall to try to fix everyone in into the restaurant.
Very much prefered to go over the street and have dinner at the amazing Indian restaurant instead.
There are WiFi internet on the hotel, but not for free. But for S$28 you could use the internet for 24 hours in the room. There are other fees for shorter time though, but not so much lower that it's worth it. Better to take 24 hours directly instead.
Service in the reception was good and the staff was very friendly, although the hotel should hire some more staff. Sometimes it took me 15-20 minutes to get help, as the reception was way too often full with people who wanted to check out, check in, ask questions, change money or, like me, buy an internet card.
I'm maybe spoiled from other hotels, but anything more than two minutes waiting in the reception is way too much according to me.
This also went for the elevators, as they always were full and not working in a very logical way. There were three different elevators next to each other, but if you were unlucky you could still be stuck waiting for one in five-six minutes. Again, I might be spoiled, but I can't really say that's okay.
There is a huge parking garage under the hotel, and guests can stay there for free. Just remember to get your complimentary card from the reception every time you want to go out with the card, as you otherwise will have to pay with the cash card.
Included in the hotel fee was two bottles of water every day, very much appreciated.
Despite the long waiting times, the good rates and nice rooms make sure this is an hotel I'll like to stay in again.
