Friendly but mistake prone

Staff at this hotel are friendly and helpful but they aren't on top of their game. Some staff appeared clueless. Mistake prone - we checked in for 2 days but a different staff had to call us the next day to ask we when we are planning to check out. Rooms and view aren't fantastic- definitely is quite dated and poor value compared to our first hotel at the Conrad Centennial over by Marina Bay. Asked for itemized billing but all we get is a lump sum bill. The catering in charged of our wedding reception is exceptionally mistake prone. She drove us nuts with the mistakes she made in each and every email. Catering staff were dishonest - said they served the complimentary wine but none of our friends and relatives had a single drop. They were also supposed to give a complimentary wedding favor to each of our guests but not everyone got it. Definitely 'nay' if you are planning a reception at this place. Room was okay - stayed at room 166 and it definitely did not feel 5 star. An overpriced hotel.

Downtown's best kept secret

A beautiful colonial style building renovated with all modern conveniences right in the heart of the shopping area near Orchard and Scott's Roads. The staff were very nice, courteous and helpful (barring one stray incident at their bakery). Our room was very spacious and nice.

Their breakfast bar and room service were great and prompt as well. They also have a famous afternoon high tea service which the kids also gave their thumbs up!!

Easily accessible by MRT, Taxi, Bus. Easy to walk around; close to tons of shopping. Proximity to many of the sights. Recommend for business travellers and families as well.

Unique Quality: Great Food, service, great rooms, great location, proximity to all sights...

Not as good as the name suggests.

Hard to recommend.
Stayed one night last month. The room offered not the room booked and confirmed.
Staff offhanded.
Hotel is quite musty in the hallways. Pretends to be a grand older style hotel in the manner of Raffles- but this is not quite true.
Although there is a grand old entry and hallway check in and most rooms are around the side
in building that looks to be about 60's vintage and is showing its age.
Location good just off Orchard Road adjoining shopping.

Unique Quality: Pools and Gardens are good.

Luxury....

I had my wedding there so I upgraded since it was a once in a life time thingy :p and had the rare chance to stay in the Brunei suite . It was so so big. It has a big verandah which can cater for 30 ppl , a living rm. , a pantry, a dining area, 1 study room complete with all the works. My bedroom came with a walk in wardrobe, n sauna. really felt like a royalty :)

It's low rise so the rooms r at most 2nd flr. The deluxe room is pretty normal.

Unique Quality: They have 2 pools. 1 is the main pool , the other is the private pool for the pool suites. That room is very nice. Tink there r only 8 suites in total. The pool is created in a balinese style n is located near the business area. Quite costly but worth it coz it's near the shopping areas hence after all that u can take a dip in the pool without the fuss of the other guests.

More about Goodwood Park Hotel

Poolside room

by TonyBagnall about Goodwood Park Hotel

The hotel itself is really nice though, big suite-type poolside room for same cost as a standard room in a 5*. Strangely all the rooms in the newer bit are on one floor, a bungalow hotel! The colonial front of the hotel is actually quite ugly and painted an unattractive grey colour. There are two pools, one for lengths and one for relaxing.

Very good buffet style breakfast with a large choice of western and asian options. Afternoon tea was very good, the smaller of the two pools pretty, the chinese restaurant was excellent.

Pepper Crabs (Buffet)

by Tawong

Hi All,

My cousin who will be visiting Singapore soon mentioned great pepper crabs served at a local hotel for their buffet lunch/dinner but unfortunately does not know the name of the hotel/restaurant? Does anyone know? Many thanks!

Your cousin is probably referring to the Goodwood Park Hotel. However pepper crabs there have seasonal availability. It's part of their marketing promotions. Sometimes it's that, sometimes something else.

However if you want to eat really good pepper crabs, East Coast Park Seafood Center is the best place to go. There are several restaurants all selling pepper crabs, chilli crabs, butter crabs... list goes on. All are great tasting and very competitively priced, will be value for money. Usually diners select the restaurant based on seat availability at that time of waiting as advance bookings on weekends and public holidays are extremely difficult due to the crowd.

Totally agree with vyxxyn. If you want the crabs prepared in all sort of manners, you really must go down to East Coast. My favourite black pepper crab is the one from the main Long Beach Seafood (http://www.longbeachseafood.com.sg) at 1018 East Coast Parkway. My favourite chilli crab is the one from Jumbo Seafood (http://www.jumboseafood.com.sg) at East Coast Seafood Centre.

There is also a Long Beach at East Coast Seafood Centre as well, but I find that it is not as good as the one at their main outlet.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

Thanks vyxxyn and DarkRay for your replies. I am aware of the great pepper crabs at Long Beach. Will check out Goodwood Park Hotel. Thanks again!

Hey,

There is also a Jumbo Seafood Restaurant at Clarke Quay. But the best is thier signature outlet at East Coast
