Good price in good location
Singapore doesn't have the cheapest hotels in the world, so when I this time wanted to stay for almost three weeks we decided to try to find something at least a bit lower than normal.
And we found Harbour Ville Hotel. 10-15 minutes walking from the biggest shopping center in the city (Vivocity) and just outside the most central parts of town. And best of all, 5-600 euros cheaper in total than other hotels we had stayed at earlier.
It's a two star hotel, but there is no real difference from three star hotels we have stayed at. The room was pretty big (although, if you wanna have any space at all, don't choose a standard room!!), the bed was big and good to sleep in, and the bathroom was big enough for us too.
The standard room is way smaller than the superior rooms, and in the latter ones there is also a fridge which is very handy when you want to cool down food or drinks. There is no mini bar in the room, so you'll have to bring everything you want yourself, although the hotel gives you one water bottle every day (0,5 liter). You can buy both water and soda and some snacks in the hotel reception.
Wireless internet can be fixed at the room, for a cost of 3 euro/hour. Better then to go down to either the hotel lobby or the hotel terrace where internet is free.
It's a quick walk down to Vivocity from the hotel, where one will find the closest MRT (metro) station. If the heat is too much one can instead opt to take the bus that stops 50-150 meter away from the hotel (depending on direction).
Staff is friendly and nice, and the room is cleaned and fixed every day. Not under the bed though, which I realised when I dropped something under it.
Breakfast is included in the price and is served every day except Sundays. Nothing special, but still nice. Toasts, egg, chicken sausage and some noodles. Plus water, tea and coffe. Served outside on the terrace, which was a very nice way to start the day.
Two things are less good about the hotel. 1. The lack of parking spots. The hotel claimed ahead of our arrival that there never is any problems to find a spot, while we instead had problems every day. To the hotel's defence must be said that one could give the key to the reception staff, and then would then park the car as soon as there was a spot free.
2. Prostitution. The low prices on the hotel seemed to make it worthwhile for both younger and older men to bring their hired girls to the hotel for a quickie. Specially around lunch time there were quite many girls wearing way too much make up.
There weren't any problems for us, and I was never approached. But it wasn't a very nice feeling and it gave the hotel a feeling of lower status.
Unique Quality: No pool or possibilities to catch any sun at Harbour Ville Hotel. But still a nice and calm place. Close to the city center without having to pay a leg and an arm for it.
Despite the problems mentioned above I won't hesitate to come here again.
