Far From Civilization

by partyjetsetgo about Hotel 81 Princess

well it was a packaged tour arranged by my friend so i didnt have a choice, this hotel is located at lor 12 geylang, called hotel 81 princess, located at the red light district of singapore were you can see "professional" girls as early as 7 to 8 am, with their umbrellas and their fixed station at the street, come night and the whole street will be literally lined by them.. so thats a useful tip for those who want to "partake" in that trade ..not for me (not if they have guys lined up there hahaha) anyway going back to the hotel, the people were nice except the manager, i think, on our first night some of the receptionists gave us a list of establishments that they can call and order for us and be delivered to our room directly, on the 2nd night this manager refused to do so, and asked us to just call them from the hotel room, charging us at SGD 1 per call ... like whatever
well anyway the room is ok, standard, not much cable channels to watch but its not like you'll be staying at the room the whole day, but still in the area of geylang its not like you can roam around feeling uber comfy ... hmmmm well some of the personnel were nice enough and with the land arrangements we got its hell lotta cheap, and the constant check in and check out of "professional" ladies and clientelle will keep you entertained :D and dont be surprised if your daily free breakfast is a mcdonald's big breakfast hihihi and dont lock the door of your room from the inside when you leave as you can't open it ;)

How much taxi fare travels from changi airport to JB tune hotel

by slen

like above. I would like to ask how much it costs to travel from singapore changi airport to JB tune hotel.

Thank You

Hi,
Taxis from Singapore need a special license to travel to Johor and can only drop you off at a particular spot (Kota Raya if you're familiar with JB).

Or you could take the MRT to Bugis and go to the Taxi Terminal at Queen St. You can catch either a licensed Singapore taxi from there or take a Malaysian Taxi that can bring you anywhere you want to go in JB.

Sorry, can't really help with prices, but would also depend on time of day (peak hour) and there is a constant $5 surcharge to get a cab from the airport.

:) hope this helps a little.

You can, only, catch a taxi to JB from Queens Street. Fares from Queens Street depends on the traffic at the Causeway into JB. Off-peak and within 10 minutes should get you through. Weekends peak hours could take an hour or so to clear both Singapore and Malaysia side of Immigrations and Customs.

Adaptor plugs in Singapore

by DSwede

Singapore use 230V, 50Hz

Typical plug is British 3-pin rectangular blade plug:

However, USA/Japanese 2-pin (type A) may be found from time to time.

Punk Rockers in Singapore

by phil_uk_net

I met and chatted to a group of youngsters dressed up in punk gear with spiky haircuts. They were hanging around Clarke Quay down by the Singapore River. I can't actually recall the last time I saw someone dressed this way in London. The punk thing that came to life in 1977 was way before these kids had even been born. They were the most unthreatening punks I had ever met and I doubt very much that a drop of saliva has ever been spat from their lips or that they have ever muttered an obscenity against royalty or the establishment. I can sympathise though with teenage kids getting to an age when they want to express themselves and be independent of their parents. Singapore, being the most regulated country in the world, must be a tough place for them in which to live at times.

Lunar New Year

by trisanna

The lunar new year, a.k.a. Chinese year is one of the biggest holidays in Singapore. The holiday starts with the lunar new year's eve. Offices usually close at 12 or 2pm. Singaporean buddhists -go home and meet up with family for their reunion dinners.

The lunar new year is quite festive. Chinatown is super crowded. It usually is very busy a few weeks before the holiday. The streets are decorated with images of the lunar animals. The lunar animal of that year's image is everywhere. For instance, for 2005-it's the year of the rooster. There is a small concert and fireworks in chinatown at midnight. At the esplanade-they have larger grander fireworks that go off at midnight.

Many guide books recommend visitors to come to Singapore and Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year. I don't know about Hong Kong, but it's really not the best time to come to Singapore.

Lunar New Year's eve is quite interesting and worth to see. But during the holiday, which is two days long -things are closed. Mostly everything is closed the first day and some businesses will open the second day. The only things that are open during this time are restaurants in Little India. The hotel restaurants will be open-but orchard road will be empty. Before the holiday-locals will load up on groceries.

If you decide to come into the area for the lunar new year's eve and leave the next day. Be warned that a lot of Singaporeans will be traveling out of Singapore as well. Many plan their travel 6 months ahead. Flights out of Singapore to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and other neighboring countries will be quite full. Just book early and you will be fine.

A week after the official public holidays, there is the Chingay parade. This parade is a little silly, but has some nice floats, many with corporate logos.

Warm and Sunny!

by Rachelynn

Singapore is a tropical island and there's no need to pack long john or heavy jackets, no matter which month of year you are coming. Save the space for souvenirs!!! =) Pack Light. Shades would be good.

Singaporeans are pretty casual in our dressing, bermudas, sports sandals and sleeveless are very common here.

of course Nov- Dec would be cooler and there would be more rainfall.

Bring an umbrella or raincoat along.
