Well this place was beyond expectations. It was reasonably cheap and the rooms were really comfortable. Its S$109 for a night and they provide complimentary bottled water and noodles in the cup.
Don't mix it up with the other Hotel 81 at Geylang (which is not advisable)
Unique Quality: Its location is right in Chinatown Across the road is the Chinatown MRT and a shopping complex.
A bunch of place to visit around the area. The Maxwell Road Hawker Centre and the China Square Food Court, to name a few.
To get to Orchard road, its thru the MRT at Chinatown, switch trains at Dhoby Gaut, and off to Orchard MRT station. All in 10 mins (+/- the wait for the train)
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Hotel 81 Chinatown 3*
If you are looking for a budget and conveniently located hotel, then head down to Chinatown MRT (NEL) station and you will be able to see Hotel 81 Chinatown.
Food is abundant in Chinatown. Try Hong Lim Market, Smith Street and Chinatown Market.
Most of the other branches of Hotel 81 are located in the "red light" district.
Unique Quality: Located centrally at the busy junction of New Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street, in Singapore’s Chinese heartland, our Chinatown Hotel offers you a glimpse into the Chinese culture.

Noisy Hotel 81
In the perfect location to stay in Singapore, but so noisy to be able to sleep there. The noise of the traffic is imposible. Rooms are really smalls and bathroom with shower. Its a new hotel, not so cheap if you think that there you are sleeping nearly like in the street because of the noise. I will not recomend it. I do recomend the location, search another hotel in chinatown.
To usher in the year of the Rooster, Chinatown is transformed into a fairyland of light and colour with spectacular overarching decorations lining the streets.
The bustling street bazaar (15 Jan - 8 Feb) with its delectable array of goodies like waxed duck, BBQ Meat - "Ba Kwa" (my Fav), cookies and other new year accessories.
For 2005, the Chinatown light up ceremony falls on 15 Jan at 7.30pm. The fire crackers were lighted and you could hear them cracking miles away.
I was there to soak in the atmosphere. Thousands of them were there too. You could see the crowds. The Eu Tong Sen Street was closed from 3pm to 11pm. Most people took the MRT to Chinatown station which is just opposite Hotel 81 Chinatown.

Accommodation Alternative to the recently closed ATravellersreststop?
by Boleslav
We stayed at this wonderful and quiet place last year and wanted to do so again this year only we just found out that the building was sold and they had to close the doors to the business.
Is there a similar small/cozy hostel in Chinatown ?
After hours of reading the reviews, I am becoming desperate and will broaden the question - is there a small, quiet hostel in the price range around S$ 60 per night ?
