Cheap and cheerful!!
by arv1 about Dickson Court Hotel
I booked this hotel as a last resort, as I never know where I will end up when I pack and go to the airport!! BUT it is the ideal place if you intend to spend most of your time outdoors!!
Honestly, it isn't at all luxurious and does not serve ANY food but it is in a good location, near a main road, a lot of restaurants!! The staff were really friendly and though it was cheap, the standard was quite high.
However, if you want to spend a lot of time in the hotel or are travelling with children , I do not recommend this place. Hmmmm...only the location is a plus!

For the best Indian food, you should go to Little India. Neither hotel is within walking distance to it but there it is connected by MRT.
Why don't you try e-mailing the hotel to ask if there are any restaurants in the vicinity or do a web search of Indian restaurants in Singapore by area.

The best Indian restaurants are all located in Little India area. Since S'pore is small city you can reach Little India within a few minutes either by taxi or by MRT or by bus.
The hotels you have mentioned don't have any indian restaurants.

little india is the best place for asian food. when i went to singapore i stayed on the outskirts of little india at Dickson Court Hotel which was reasonably priced though the room was board only, no food. this was not a problem as there were loads of indian restaurants in close proximity. you could also consider this hotel...

hi rcsam
well, if u were to accomodate at meritus marina, the nearest indian restuarant would be the komalas. it is located at the peninsula plaza, which is 5mins walk from your hotel. alternatively, u might wanna dine at tandoori restraunt near the swissotel merchant court hotel, near the clarke quay. all these places are within walking distance. so it wont be a problem.
for a wider variety of food, u might wanna consider lau pa sat. they have indian ,chinese, malay, western...etc..food there
enjoy!! =)

Hi traps,
It was good to hear from you and thanx for your helpful suggestions. I got a reply from the Marina Mandarin hotel reservations (Marina Bay). Do you have any idea about this hotel ? Does it have any Indian restaurants nearby or I will have to go to Little India only. Which of the two hotels is preferable ? Will be glad to hear your suggestionl. Thanks again for your helpful hints.

Marina Mandarin is within the Marina complex. You can pop over to the Pan Pacific Hotel across the road for top class Indian food at Rang Mahal. Alternatively you can get cheap Indian meals at the various food courts inside Marina.
The Meritus Mandarin Hotel is on Orchard Road. Little India is within easy each by bus or by the MRT ==> Somerset to Dhoby Ghaut to Little India or even Farrer Park station. The Little India stretch is located between these 2 stations.
