by raytung31

Hi all,

Excluding buffet breakfast, if there is any good breakfast to enjoy on Orchard road (NOT Orchard BLVD!). Any cuisine will be fine.

Thanks for sharing.

There's a coffee and toast place open fairly early in Wisma Atria on Orchard Road.

There are MANY choices of restuarants, coffee shops etc where you can have a slap-up breakfast, in Orchard Road. Take a stroll, and take your pick after looking at the menus. One thing that Singapore does NOT lack is eating places, lots on Orchard Road.

Not orchard road, but well worth the detour: Little india. Along Serangoon Rd, there are plenty of shops that sell delicious indian style breakfast, which mainly means calory-rich deep fried stuff like bajis, pakoras, pooris, different rootis, idlis, but also sweet stuff, and all mouth-watering delicious, and super-cheap!!

I often go to the Coffee Bean and have one of their breakfasts. I like the salmon scramble. It's not really anything special but it's cheap and coffee refills are included.

But most of the hotels have restaurants doing breakfasts, not necessarily buffets - and even if they are doing buffets, I think you can sometimes order a la carte.

Travel Tips for Singapore

Pawnshop

by yuet29

Yes, you can still see this in SIngpore.. a few of them in china town.. surprisingly to me actually..

May be is my mistake, I thought pawnshop is only occured in old chinese town.. where those poor pawn their belongings when they urgently need money..

Hmm... may be one day I may need to go in?.. who knows?. haha

ELECTRICITY

by imstress

Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country.

Self Service

by kissgurami

If u see any notice or anyone telling u "SELF SERVICE" , it means that you have wait for the food and take it to your own table.

most of the hawkers in SG , practise this coz the manpower is tight plus they have a hard time finding the seats of their customers.

Usually , u take a tray or pay or stand aside n wait for your food.

applicable to drinks also.

Swimmers ear

by a60

My daughter suffered a swimmers ear infection while in Singapore. The doctor put her on antibiotics and I asked them if Singapore sold "Aqua Ear". He told me that Singaporeans do not suffer from swimmers ear, which I found interesting as they live in a tropical climate. If you forget to take some from home, buy some surgical methylated spirits.

Heartland Singapore where the locals live

by valenetay

I'm a Singaporean and I'd recommend a traveller to get out from Orchard and go to the heartlands! A good place to go would be Tampines or Toa Payoh. It'll only take around 10-20 minutes by MRT from City Hall Station (Central SG). They're the largest housing estates in Singapore and see where the locals live! You'll be amazed at the amenities that are available even in downtown. We also have a very unique way of hanging our clothes out to dry. Basically they're pegged onto poles which are hung outside the flats.
