Good facilities, but a little out of the centre

This hotel was our base for stopovers on both the way to and way back from Australia. It is on the other side of Havelock Road from the Singapore river, which is not the most central location. It’s about 10-15 minutes’ walk from Clarke Quay or Chinatown MRT though there is a bus stop right outside.

The rooms are comfortable, with all the amenities you would expect, including mini bar and tea making facilities, kimono and slippers. Our first room had a view of the hotel pool. On our return trip we had a room on the 15th floor with a view over the river.

We found that we were entitled to a free dinner for one night of our stay, so opted for our first night. This was taken in the ground floor buffet restaurant (where breakfast is also served). I’m not a huge fan of buffets, but there was a reasonable choice. The best part was dessert, with some very nice mini desserts such strawberry and mango mousse cakes, and also a chocolate fountain.

The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with a buffet catering for Asian and western tastes (including nice mini pastries), and an ‘egg station’ where omelettes etc could be cooked to order.

There are two other restaurants in the hotel, which we didn’t try.

All in all, the facilities of this hotel are good, but if I return to Singapore, I will probably choose a hotel in a more central location.

Unique Quality: There are two rooms on the 5th floor which can be used after checkout by guests with late airport pick ups in order to freshen up. This is extremely helpful as checkout is in the morning, but out flights out were both at around midnight. A shower is very necessary after a day wandering around in Singapore's humidity. One is for use by men and one for women. The signage seemed obvious enough to us – but on our second stay my husband found that the ‘male’ room was occupied by an elderly couple who wouldn’t let him in.

Directions: Near Singapore river, about 15 minutes walk from Chinatown MRT.

This is a city hotel with the usual facilities such as coffee and tea making facilities, hair dryer and inroom safe, the rooms are clean and comfortable and offer great views over the city and the river.

Unique Quality: Breakfast is good, and they offer a very good evening buffet where you can try many specialities, local as well as for example japanese food and local sweets.
What I did not like about the restaurant was that is is located next to the lobby and everyone coming from or going to the elevators has to go through the restaurant which does not add to a cozy atmosphere.
There is an outdoor swimming pool and a gymnasium, we did not use any of those though.
