A Value for Money Backpackers Hostel in Singapore

    by

Many people in China said hostel stay in Singapore is very costly. But, we were glad to have a good experience staying at Ideal Backpackers Hostel. It is reasonably priced, at about S$20 per person per night !!

With the help of their things-to-do tips and how-to-go on their website, we manage to move around Singapore fairly easily by bus and MRT train. After every days' tiring tours all over the place, we were happy to come back to hostel for a good night sleep.

To us, Ideal Backpackers Hostel provides cheap and convenient accommodation. I guess nowadays hostels are keeping their cost low, we could undestand that we are not expecting hotel services for hostel price.

All in all, I would say this is a friendly place, great value for good nights sleep when we were in Singapore.

Unique Quality: Besides the hostel, it has a good eating place. We went on a hungry hunt one night to try out Korea Barbarcue food that we were told about the other day by a friend of us (thanks!). Name after the famous korean drama, Da Chang Jin Korean BBQ and steamboat buffet is the restaurant along geylang that provide authentic korean buffet and steamboat/BBQ .

Most of the permium ingredients used are importerd from korea: sauces, noodle, salted vegetables, kimchi and even some utensils. The shop has 86 different varieties of ingredients to choose from which include some seafood items too. We sat out on a table along the street where cooling breeze can be felt.

Directions: Near Kallang MRT station, 100 m walking distance from the train station.

I haven't had the opportunity to stay here yet but this hostel has been recommended to me as a good budget accommodation option, which I know from many visits to Singapore isn't always easy to find.

It is conveniently located near Kallang MRT which makes getting to and from your accommodation a breeze.

Some of the facilities include -

•more than 60 well appointed rooms, all with air conditioning.
•rooms are protected with fire hose reel, fire extinguisher and alarm siren.
•As the hostel is new setup, they provide new mattresses with fresh and clean sheets, blankets and pillow.
•brand new clean bathrooms with instant hot water.
•42 inch plasma screen TV with unique SingaporeTV chanels.
    •24 hours security CCTV.
•free 24 hours High speed Internet access – Wi Fi Connection.
    •free use of Lockers.
•free safe luggage space on checking out day.
    •free water-cooler drinking water

Unique Quality: The hostel is a short walk from Kallang MRT station, which comes direct from Changi Airport.

Self-servelLaundry + dryer - S$5 per wash and per dry

Low cost luggage storage period safe keeping - key deposit of S$10 is required

Directions: Ideal Backpacker Hostel - 3 mins walking distance from Kallang MRT station

where is the train station in singapore

by Raffies

im travelling from kl to singapore by train, will arrive in the morning, i want to know whats the name of the train station in singapore, and is it far from hostels and tourist attractions spots?? is there public transportation (buses, metros..) from the railway station to the city centre??
thanks

Hi,

the nearest metro from the railway station is Tanjong Pagar. However, with your luggage is not advisable to walk there as it is quite a distance unless you carry alight bag with you. You may approached people around for the way and people here in Singapore are friendly to assist.

Suggest, you can take cab to the city which is pretty near and fare will not be too expensive. Singapore is accessible by taking metro everywhere once you hit the city.

hope above info do helps.

cheers
Any

there are buses from the Train station to town or other places, it is less than 5mins walk.

as for MRT, it is about 15 - 20mins walk to Tanjong Pajar MRT station.

If u using a backpack, it shouldn't be a problem.

Haw Par Villa

An old tourist attraction with statues and sculptures of Chinese art & culture, and characters in stories and fairy tales.

It used to require admission fee, but now it's free!

Fortune telling ... by a trained parrot

by phil_uk_net

I love all this nonsense. What shall we do today to make us feel better about our future? Read a horoscope in the paper? Let someone read our palm or the tea leaves from our morning cuppa? No. We will give this nice man some money and let his parrot pick out a card for us. The card the stupid bird picks up with his beak will give an accurate forecast of the life we are yet to lead. Simple, eh? What are you waiting for?

BE COURTEOUS!

by ALSAGOFF

SINCE 1979 WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS COURTESY CAMPAIGN BECAUSE APPARENTLY S'POREANS ARE RUDE AND NEED TO BE EDUCATED TO BE KIND AND GRACIOUS.

WELL IF YOU'RE RUSHING FOR THE TRAIN AT 8.30AM ON THE WAY TO OWRK, LIKELIHOOD OF SEEING THAT 'RUDE' SIDE OF S'POREANS IS VERY HIGH. BUT THEN AGAIN, IT'S PROBABLY LIKE THAT TOO IN LONDON, NEW YORK OR EVEN MADRID! (YES I TOOK THE TRAIN AT 6.30AM IN MADIRD, AND YES! THEY WERE JUS AS VICIOUS IN PUSHING AND SHOVING AS S'POREANS OK?!) :)

SO TIP FOR THE DAY: DO NOT TAKE THE TRAIN DURING RUSH HOR...HEY, YOU'RE PROBABLY A TOURIST IF YOU'RE READING THIS PAGE SO CHILL...GO TAKE THE TRAIN AFTER ALL THE MADNESS OF MORNING TRAFFIC AHS SUBSIDED.

Small Hand Towel

I highly recommend getting a small hand towel to keep in your bag that you will carry around. Between the constant rain during some days and the very warm temps you will finding having something to wipe down with desirable.

Palau Ubin Island

by aussirose

I just loved Palau Ubin!! I wanted to do something different in Singapore this time around and experience some of the old authentic culture.... not just the built up hustle & bustle and shops!

So we set out for a day cycling on Palau Ubin - north of Singapore - in between Singapore & Malaysia.

What a wonderful day we had ... as described in my travelogue below!! I can totally recommend this place!!

Check out my other pix for some funny road signs on Palau Ubin :o)
