More about The Royal Peacock Hotel

Royal Peacock Hotel

by naruto about Boutique Hotel in the heart of Chinatown

Despite its "cheena" or cheesy sounding name, this boutique is all class. Right in the heart of Chinatown, the Royal Peacock Hotel was converted from a row of ten carefully restored shophouses. The architecture of the building is exquisite and beautiful, with elegant pilasters, and bright red shutters.

Friends from out of town stayed here once and they were pleased with the great service and hospitality. The location is very convenient as well, being near the Outram MRT station.

Rates for a twin starts at US$52 -Great location
-Unique and historical architecture
-Reasonable prices
-Great range of 5* stars services

Staying in Chinatown?

by aslikaan

I'm planning to travel to Singapore with my fiance. Due to my researches, Royal Peacock Hotel and Riverview Hotel (both in Chinatown) looks like good choices to stay. I would be grateful, if anyone make comments about that hotels. Do you think Chinatown district is a good choice?

Royal Peacock hotel is in Chinatown but River View Hotel, I would say is not exactly there. May be you want take a look at Hotel 1929, which is just next to Royal Peacook. It is very popular and you just need to check out their website and you will know why :

Chinatown district Good or bad chioce? It all depend on how and what you expect. My personal view is that Singapore chinatown is very touristy. Most of the original tenants mending/selling the normal Chiintown stuff is gone due to Our redevlopement plans. In place now is the old shophouse but newly painted and renovated and selling stuff for tourist.

It is not me alone but some tourist also agree with me that the "Chinatown feel" is not there except during the Mid Autum Festival or during the Lunar Chinese New year period that the place is full of activities with road side markets along the street that bring back the good old chinatown.

It is still nice to wonder around Chinatown but don't expect the kind of chinatown you get in San Fran or London.

Chinatown got a lot of tasty food to eat and is certainly a good choice. Also you can find a lot of unique stuff at Chinatown such as chinese calligraphy and chinese antique. A good choice to stay but you can also consider furama hotel which is also a good place to stay (http://www.sgcheongster.com/hotelb.html) as it is next to the MRT.
