Too late if you're not here in '08!

The New 7th Storey Hotel was built in 1953 and it is a budget hotel for backpackers. It is located in the heart of the town close to Bugis Street, Little India, Arab Street and Suntec City.

The New 7th Storey Hotel is not what its name suggests because it actually has nine storeys with 38 rooms.

The hotel was renovated in 1997 and all the rooms are completely refurbished with TV sets, local telephone lines, controlled air-conditioning and carpeting.

There is a choice of ensuite or shared bathroom. I opted for inter-connecting family rooms, one with a private bathroom.

Many VTers have recommended this budget hotel because of its excellent location and budget but sadly it is due to be demolished in 2008 to make way for yet another MRT Station.

Unique Quality: Two unique features include an outside spiral staircase and a cage lift that still needs to be operated manually. I believe this is the last operating cage lift in Singapore.

A nostalgic relic from a bygone era and it's a shame that the next time I'm in Singapore it will be gone.

a budget hotel with the best location

after staying in a number of budget hotels in my previous visits, the new 7th storey hotel located along rochor road has already become my 2nd home for the last 3 years. i visit singapore 3x-4x a year, and although im tempted to try other hotels, i always end up here because primarily of its price and good location. the bugis mrt station is just a few meters away... seiyu mall is practically just behind it, which has a food court and supermarket where you could get your daily supply of necessities... you can also enjoy shopping, eating, and even movies, with the bugis junction just a few minutes away... everything just seems to be near this hotel that i really save up on transportation a lot! :-)

Unique Quality: although the rooms are very basic, apart from the best location, this hotel also has the friendliest staff... they also have kitchen facilities complete with a ref, microwave, toaster, etc; internet stations, exercise facilities, laundry, books and boardgames you can borrow, patios for relaxing, daily newspaper in each floor, etc... their old-style elevator is also a unique feature of the hotel as this is the only place where i still see someone "manually" operating the lifts...

For backpackers

It's not just a hotel, it's also a backpacker hostel.

For hotel rooms, it cost $47 SGD to $73 SGD depending on std or deluxe

For backpackers, it will cost $16 SGD per night (4 person to a room)

Location wise, it's within walking distance to Bugis, a shopping mall, the Lavender Bus Terminal for buses to Malaysia.

The BEST Hostel!!!

I stayed here for my second trip to S'pore. I must say this is the best place for backpackers like me. Though it's outlook isn't fancy, its interior and its staff are EXCELLENT. Apart from normal hotel rooms, it offers the cheapest dorm rooms (internet rate =S$16/night) for backpackers.

The staff was super nice to me. Though I just stayed for 1 night, they let me come back 1 week later for a day of free luggage storage plus a free shower!!! This is the real place that backpackers look for!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND NEW 7th STOREY HOTEL TO EVERYONE VISITING S'PORE!!!

Unique Quality: - super friendly staff
- FREE luggage storage after checkout!!!
- FREE shower after checkout (maybe depends on different cases but at least I was offered this!)
- excellent location (just 2 minutes away from Bugis MRT)
- dorm-rooms are with only 2 bunk-beds (greater privacy)
- free lockers in dorm-rooms
- excellent shower facilities
- lovely vintage elevator with a more lovely operator~~ ; )
- sun bathing area!!! yeah, in the heart of a city!~

- lots of other facilities on different floors, read its website!!!

a hostel called hotel

clean: very good (change of bedsheets every day - regardless if you are staying longer)
staff: very friendly
area: easy to reach from the airport and food everywhere around

Unique Quality: i liked the friendlyness:
the day i had to leave in the afternoon i was walking around the city (obviously) and when i came back to the hostel to pick up my lugguage, which was stored there since i did not pay for the day anymore, they let me still go back and have a shower and change before i went off to the airport... and everyone who has been to singapore knows how much this means after walking around for a whole day in the city!!!

THE NEW 7TH STOREY HOTEL ...

by Adeline_Foo

THE NEW 7TH STOREY HOTEL Built in 1953, the New 7th Storey Hotel is landmark of a bygone era. In fact, this building has resided in the same spot for the last 47 years. New 7th Storey Hotel is not what its name suggests. It actually has nine storey with 38 rooms to cater to the budget conscious traveller. The hotel also offers travellers a quaint side of Singapore with its spiral staircase and a lift that can still be operated manually.

Great Location! - New 7th Storey Hotel Singapore

by kelnsha about New 7th Storey Hotel Singapore

Although I did not stay in this hotel before but I have heard good comments.

It is well run and reliable. Its four bed dorms are all air-conditioned. Its other rooms are clean and spacious. It sits in splendid isolation on a patch of cleared land very near Bugis MRT station and there are delightful garden patios.

You could try the Far East Asia Hotel, it seemed to be one of the next 5 options to stay when we were looking at the 7th Storey.
