Splash out for honeymoon

we enjoyed our stay at the novotel the room itself was fine with a veiw of the fort and the new singapore flyer in the background!!

The club lounge was nice and a good option to relax there over looking the river and the lights.

breakfast by the pool was great in the mornings...fab food options great to full up before a big day out and about!!

Unique Quality: veiw over the river was fantastic!! Location was great we enjoyed being able to walk down and take our pick of places to eat...with a shoping mall across the river!!

Down by the River

Staying in the city center of Singapore with amenities and Mass Rapid Transportation(MRT) to bring you anywhere is a swell idea.

There is a good Japanese supermarket down at Basement 1 of the building.

Unique Quality: Clean, great views all round, large almost-Olympic sized swimming pool, a jacuzzi in the suite, hmmm!

The Novotel Clarke Quay is OK, but ...

I never thought that I’d stay in Clarke Quay---I always thought I’d stay in one of the budget boutique hotels in Chinatown. But as luck would have it, my favorite budget boutique increased its rates. My boyfriend decided to pay for my SG hotel bill as a gift---and said I should book instead a 4star hotel. After much online research, we chose Novotel because of its location and because we heard it was newly refurbished (formerly the Hotel New Otani).

Overall, I think I could’ve done better. It doesn’t have the character of my favorite boutique, nor is its service orientation at a level that I’d hope. My favorite boutique provides better service. The maid also forgot a wet pillow case on my shower rack! The bellboy service can do some improvement---I witnessed a taxi driver chastising the bellboy for failing to welcome the guests and help them with their luggage immediately.

The room is smaller than the standard Swissotel room, but I like this one better. I was given a room at the business floor (23rd) because the hotel was running full. Unfortunately, nobody was there to assist me to my room. The room and bathroom is clean. They do provide more than enough toiletries—that’s always a plus for me.

We decided not to take the breakfast buffet this time. There’s a 24-hour McDonald’s and a 711 downstairs---if you’re craving for a late night snack.

Unique Quality: My favorite part of the room, though, is its view. I was given the Robertson Quay view room (as opposed to the Clarke Quay side), where the Alkaff bridge is---one of the bridges I wanted to see.

The best feature of this hotel is its location---it is right next door to Clarke Quay. It is located in the same building complex as Liang Court, with a large Kinokuniya (bookstore) shop. Plus, it’s easy to book a River Cruise because a station is just across.

Novotel Clarke Quay

Without doubt the ugliest builkding on the Singapore downtown skyline, one of the great advantages of staying here is that you don't have to look at it. The hotel even has the gall to use posters proclaiming how great the restored Clarke Quay looks, whn the quayside area is aesthetically devastated by the orange tiled monstrosity that is - the Novotel.

The inside of the hotel is all post-modern French charm, which is actually a pleasant change from the bland American-global feel of so many hotel chains these days. The top three floors are reserved for Executive rooms at a small premium, but the rooms up at the top still feel good value, especially compared to the absurd prices in Hong Kong and even in Shanghai. In Singapore you even get a view, whereas the 24th floor in Hong Kong generally gives you a view of the 24th floor of the next building 8 metres away, and in Shanghai the 24th floor gives you a view of a milky grey mass of NO2, SO2 and PM25 particulates that form the perennial constant photo-chemical smog (and do note that Shanghai is one of China's cleaner cities)..

Unique Quality: The Novotel rooms are on the small side, but have comfortable beds and chairs, and they even have a DVD player and state-of-the-art digital TV.
Pity that the shower is archaic and pumps water all over the floor of the bathroom though.

Altogether, an excellent hotel with friendly staff and good facilities, although don't expect any gardens or outside areas (other than a swimming pool deck exposed to half the skyscrapers in the city).

More about Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

Good hotel, great location

by TripAdvisor Member Charles_Orleans

Good standard 4 star hotel. The location at Clarke Quay makes it an ideal tourist base, the SIA tour buses round the city and to Sentosa leave from there, the MRT station is a few minutes walk and in the evenings all the restaurants and bars of Clarke Quay are just outside the hotel.
The 1 for 1 buffet lunches on Friday and Saturday are outstanding value.

Great location

We stayed in this hotel from 20/11 to 28/11 in a deluxe room after having to upgrade from superior room after 1st night but was still disapointed with standard of room, have stayed in Singapore several times before and and have always been happy but Travel Agent recommended this hotel and we thought she would know better than us so took her advice. Though most staff were helpful,Breakfast was a problem to get a hot cup of tea finally on the last day the tea was hot. It is a great location handy to most things and you do get a free River cruise and Trolley bus ride but would not stay here again.

Location + View = Noise

by TripAdvisor Member thumpo

For SIN, the rooms were on the small side. Check in was fine considering the hotel was full. We booked a mid-range room overlooking the river and were assigned a high floor. I have spent many trips in SIN and should have known the noise from the bars/restuarants below would make it 20+ stories up. My bad! The real low point was the bed! The mattress was all of 4-5" thick (and new) and was stiff as a board! My back hurt for days after this stay. If you want to stay near Ministry of Sound, are here for a schoolie break and/or are young, this place is great. If you don't fit these categories, then move on to other choices. Its pricey for what it is. Tries to pass itself off as business traveler friendly: not! Just my 2 cents.

NOVOTEL CLARKE QUAY AND PURCHASING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

by jobren

Hi was just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel. Is this hotel suitable for three kids. Also we are interested in purchasing electrical equipment dvd recorder etc and wanted to know if there was a particular place that would be recommended.Where is the best hawker food available.

ya..any novotel is suitable for kids. The area is also nice.
As for electrical stuff, you can try Funan IT center, which is nearby
where you are. Or SimLim Square. You can get a GST (tax) refund as well.
Best hawker food - since you are a foreigner, you can try out Lau Pa Sat in the evening, near Raffles MRT or Newton Hawker Center (Newton MRT)- 24 hrs.
Actually, hawker food is very common and include those at food courts.

HI!

Location-wise, it is very close to Clarke Quay, so you'll have restaurants, pubs, a brewery (Brewerkz), MRT (subway) station, river taxi rides all within walking distances.

There are too many hawker centres in Singapore. Aside from the touristy Newton and Lau Pa Sat, there are still Changi Village, Tiong Bahru, Chomp Chomp, Bedok, Maxwell Road....the list goes on....asking a Singaporean which is the best is like opening a can of really juicy fat worms.

Really tempted to answer that hawker centre question but I'm taking a break on food for the time being;p Since you're staying at Novotel, the best place to get your equipment would be Audiohouse at Liang Court. This shopping centre is just next door to your hotel. This place has a gd range of mid-priced audio equipment, tvs and cheap china-made electronic goodies there.

I usually shop at Funan Centre for software and Sim Lim Square for hardware.

For a convienient and comfortable indoor spot for hawker food, you may want to consider the Food Republic(inside Wisma Atria, next to Orchard MRT. Most popular stall - Hokkien Noodle) if you happen, and mostly likely you would, to be somewhere along Orchard Road.

Enjoy your stay in Singapore!!!

I agree with bpacker. If you are staying at Novotel Clarke Quay, go to Audio House in Liang Court. Their prices are quite good.

Or, take the MRT down from Clarke Quay MRT Station to Farrer Park MRT Station and visit Mustafa. Their prices are usually even better.

Just my 2 cnets.... :-)
