MRT Bras Basah to Orchard help!

by kc9teen

The nearest station from my hotel is Bras Basah. If i want to go to Orchard road through mrt, what route should i go to?
(will the yellow line bring me straight there or do i need to transfer to the red one once i stop in dhoby ghaut?)

*here's a link of the route map: http://www.smrt.com.sg/trains/network_map.asp

Hi, one way is to get on the north-south line, probably the closest to you will be City Hall -- just a short way away. Ask anyone or look out for Raffles City shopping centre -- is underground.

Or if closer walk to Bugis MRT and take a train (one stop) to City Hall and switch to the North-South line.

You can take a train from Bras Basah itself, but it's a longer route and more complicated.

You could also try the bus -- depending on where you are. these will get you to Orchard Rd Bus: 124, 162, 167, 171, 190, 700. Its about a 3 min ride.

Try this website for getting around Singapore. It's usually quite accurate!

Happy travels! :)

There are 2 stations near Bras Basah. 1st - City Hall Station and 2nd - Dhoby Ghaut Station.

To go to Orchard Road, take the North Bound train on the North South Line (NS) either from City Hall or Dhoby Ghaut Station.

In Singapore, english is commonly used and you should have no problem asking for direction and asking the station master which platform to go to. There are clear signs and route/station map on the train platform.

Within the train, there are route map and some trains some lighted display showin the position of the train and the stops thereafter.

Even if that goes wrong, never mind, just exit at the next station and walk across to the other side and take the next train in the other direction without penalty.

In short, very easy to get around on the MRT.

If your hotel is in Bras Basah Road and near Dhoby Ghaut, you are in luck. Dhoby Ghaut is the interchange station for all 3 operating mrt line and have entrances/exit along stamford road, bras basah road, orchard road and penang road.

Travel Tips for Singapore

Island City, Island Nation

by kiwi

You can't help but visit the city, as Singapore is an Island nation. The city covers almost the whole island, all 633 sq kms! The cleanliness is apparent and the order and way this population deals with city life.

White Clothes Best in Heat.

by kiwi

Sensibly the school boys of Singapore where white uniform which much be wonderful in the incredible heat of this place.
There's something pleasing about seeing these young scholars together and talking. They have a certain discipline about them, and you know, with the governments encouragement, they have the world ahead of them.

Walking

by cjg1

This is a tough tip to write because, well, its something I did too.

You will find most Singaporeans walk slowly and take their steady constant time. You can easily spot the tourist that has just arrived because they are walking faster. Now there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part you will find this to be the case. Its mostly due to the weather. They don't get worked up and therefore aren't dropped on the corner sweating their rears off.

So take your time and you'll better deal with the heat.

Money

by JuraidahJ

Remember to bring your travlers adaptor if you are coming form Europe or America. Money... that is all you need to pack with you. You can get everything in Singapore!!! I mean everything.... : )

If you don't wish to bring too much money - here is what you shld do. We have quite a tropical climate. If you can't stand the heat, do come prepare with some light (colour and material) long sleeve t-shirt. If you want to have a good tan, use sleeveless t shirt. End June to end August are our hottest months.

However, with the weather being unpredictable throughtout the world, it's quite hard to say. Normally, end Nov to mid Feb will be our wet season.. rain and more rain.

Mosquito repellent and all that jazz are easily purchase off the rack. If you are in the city, why wld you need that unless you are going for some campimg or jungle walk.
