Perak Hotel
by keeweechic
On my last stay in Singapore I decided to go completely different to the usual hotels I would stay at in and around Orchard Road and stay at a small and cosier type accommodation with more atmosphere around it. I chose the Perak Hotel (formerly known as Perak Lodge). It was small and inexpensive compared to most. The Perak is a restored shophouse and is family owned so there is more of a personal touch. It is also in the heart of Little India with a short walk to the Bugus Junction MRT and the Arab Street area.
A nice Boutique Hotel in an Exotic Location
by cochinjew about Perak Hotel
On my recent vsiit to Singapore, I had the chance to stay at Perak Hotel. I heard about this hotel from the last minute Hotel booking website from Australia, www.wotif.com.
The walk in rates as could be imagined is much higher than what could be had on the internet. wotif charges 102 single and 112 double including breakfast. Hotel Lobby has free wifi service. The location at Perak Street is unbeatable, just right in the middle of the most exotic locale in Singapore, the LIttle India. Lots of south Indian restaurants and the fragrance is strictly Indian.
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and accomodating. The hotel can be described as a Boutique hotel. During my stay I noticed that almost all the guests were from Europe, Australia and USA.
The rooms are comfortable enough, and the price is acceptable. Coffee and Tea available all the time. a modest breakfast is served, as I have sworn not to eat European food while I am in Asia, the selection was modest indeed. Toast, Jam, Cereal, Coffee and Fruit and just one asian dish, if you are lucky. When asked the management replied that most of the guests do not wish to have asian breakfast and prefer european breakfast, fair enough. Having WiFi is very convenient indeed.
Perak Facilities

The Perak Hotel has laundry services, a business centre which includes internet access. They will make all your tour bookings and flight reservations and are very helpful with any kind of service or information you require. There is a small sitting area with books on Singapore along with the usual tourist guides, magazines and newspapers and tea and coffee are complimentary in the breakfast area all day.
The hotel offers standard, superior, deluxe and triple rooms and all have breakfast included in the rate. The rooms are not huge and simply decorated but all you need with colour TV, air conditioning, bathrooms, electronic safe and most have mini refrigerators and tea/coffee facilities.

Hotel to Rest near the Airport
by cochinjew
I am arriving from Paris at around 5 pm( air france ) and then leaving for Yangon at 8 am the next day(jetstarasia ). Would like a place to rest. Not particularly interested in going into town.
Any suggestions? In the past, I have stayed at Changi Hotel (mediocre), and also a budget hotel chain (84?) along Jhoo Chiat street (functional). I love Hotel Perak, a boutique hotel, might stay there again, it is near Serangoon Road.
Thanks in advance.

Why not consider the transit hotel within the airport itself? More information can be found at:

Perak Hotel is an interesting choice and I myself find it quaint too. But you would have to make your way into town, although you do have the 24 hours mall, Mustafa quite nearby to keep you occupied should you not be able to sleep due to time zone differences and such.
Just my 2 cents.... :-)

Hi, ya transit hotel is an option. But you gotto book early. Transit hotel is almost always 100% booked.
The Changi Hotel you were referring to is the Changi Hotel near Joo Chiat, along Upp Changi Road? Or are you referring to the old Le Meridien Changi at Changi Village which is less than 10mins from the airport? If you are referriing to the later, it has since changed hands and undergone major renovations. Nice cool place now. And the area is a night haunt. You get one of the best nasi lemak in S'pore just across the road! :>
If you are willing to travel further (as shown in Hotel Perak or hotels in Joo Chiat), why not consider Mercure Roxy at Marine Parade Road, Mercure although located near to the above hotels, is nearer to the expressway entrance to the airport. You can get to the airport in 20mins on a clear day. Its a 4 star hotel with a shopping mall (Parkway Parade) right across the road. By the time you checked in, theres still plenty of time for you to check out the shops and hit the eateries. Parkway Parade is one of the best sub-urban malls in Singapore.
