    Little gem

    by

Staff are friendly & seem genuine in wanting you to have a comfortable & happy stay. The breakfast was good, I opted for the cooked menu which was an extra $3 but still great value. There aren't alot of extras (no pool, gym, internet etc) but for a short stay when you are just trying to see a bit of the city this isn't an issue. The bathrooms are old & you have to turn on the hot water for a while before having a shower. The room was not large but did have a polished wooden floor & well maintained furniture. The wardrobe was small but had a safe (much better than having to use reception). I found it a very comfortable stay & recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, clean place to stay witha little bit of charm.

Unique Quality: It is an old villa & so looks great, not just another modern hotel. The hallways are open to the outside at each end, which makes a change to aircon (although of course the rooms themselves do have aircon). The location is very quiet but it is just a 5 minute walk to Orchard Rd. There are not alot of rooms which makes it (& you) feel special. Make sure you ask for a room with a window or you could end up with one with only artificial light.

Directions: Orchard Road (5 minute walk)

    A smaller version of Raffles

    by

Previously known as Regalis Court, the SHA Villa is training ground for students in the hotel and hospitality indusry. Apart from the little inconveniences of inexperienced and overtly-eager staff, it's a great place if your requirements are - sleep, change / shower, breakfast, store luggage.

A lovely boutique hotel that my boyfriend and I enjoyed returning to after shopping, sightseeing, food indulgences and walkabouts. Lots of privacy as there are not many guests here and no big tourist buses either! Rooms are spacious. This used to be someone's villa! We had the standard room which was really big but without windows - so we don't know if it's raining or light or dark unless we peeped out the door. The 4th night we had the Superior room - with windows but much smaller.

Everything furnished in old world charm - beds / closets / writing bureau.

The only drawback - you can hear them when the housekeeping staff start cleaning the room next door. Then you'll know it's 10am!

Unique Quality: No pool, the view is not that great - you look out and see other private dwellings but the location is superb! Smack right in the middle of the shopping belt off Orchard Road. It's at Lloyd Road, off Killiney / Somerset. Walking distance to the subway and Orchard Road. A couple of shophouses along the way for great local food and the famous Killiney Kopitiam (coffeeshop). Quiet neightbourhood and safe to walk back even at 2am!

Directions: Off Killiney Road. Close to Orchard Road Shopping Belt.

REGALIS COURT

by S_R_NAIDU about REGALIS COURT

Regalis Court is designed with a unique character and intimate ambience to appeal to discerning travellers. Inspired by colonial romanticism, it offers an intriguing blend of East and West and serves as a reminder of the rich historical and cultural heritage from early Singapore. A retreat of quiet boutique charm in the midst of the bustling Orchard Road shopping and entertainment belt, the 43-room Regalis Court offers discerning travellers a high standard of comfort and service. A bungalow restored to its past glory, the architecture is evocative of Singapore's colonial heydays. The Peranakan-inspired decor with classic European touches makes Regalis Court exciting and different. The furnitures are individually created by skilled craftmen to evoke memories of bygone days. Influenced by the rich Peranakan culture in Singapore, fine details such as tile inlays, throw rugs and painting provide the traditional ambience that is unique to Regalis Court, Singapore.
