Backpacker's Hotel in Sg

by audspice

Hi! I'm looking for a Hotel near an MRT station (any lane will do). Budget is less than Sgd 20 per pax/night. We'll be there around 3rd week of june and be staying for 15 days.

Thanks.

HI
I stayed at Sky Orchids Hostel near Aljunied MRT. A new one that is meant to be good is Axis Hostel right on the door step of Aljunied MRT. Both would be in your price range - always bargain for longer stays.
Check out www.hostelbookers.com - I book most of my hostels with them and have had no hassles at all - relliable write ups - but you wouldn't be able to batgain for cheap rates for a long stay on this site

Hi, consider The New 7th Storey Hotel (http://www.nsshotel.com) and Bugis Backpackers (http://www.bugisbackpackers.com). Both are very conveniently located near Bugis MRT Station (considered within the city) and are within your budget.

Just my 2 cents.... :-)

Travel Tips for Singapore

INTERNET SURFING

by ALSAGOFF

Yeah, we've got McDonald's here. So what, right? But you can get more value here other than their value meals! In some McDonald's outlets, they have one or two computer terminals where you can surf the Net for FREE!

Yep, u heard right! But it's limited to 30 minutes (TIP: Come at off-peak hours when there aren't a lot of people so u can stay on longer!) and it's not broadband service so it takes quite a while. Hey, what do u expect? It's free anyway...

I'm sure in time to come, all the outlets will have internet access.

Flower Markets

by Jmill42

In a city of great smells, the air wafting around the flower markets are utterly awesome. This market was my first real Singapore "moment", as I had emerged from my hostel after a long sleep the day of my 2 AM arrival. It struck me as beautiful then, and it still does through this picture and my mental images.

There are many around the city. Go create your own mental images!

Every customs

As here you have many mix... you have to follow many tips ... like ... not using left hand ... and others tipicals of hindus, muslims and chineses... but well ... as you are a tourist ... you will be ... understand.
I am lefthanded... what can I do? ... I can eat with the hand ... but ... I will eat with the left hand ... do not use the finger to point things ... and all that...

minimalistic way

Tshirts and cotton shirts/skirts. What has been forgotten can be bought locally. Bring a dress and nice sandals as well in case. mosquito repellent Buy the latest models from Singapore, so don't bother to bring one. Price usually 30% less than British. What?

Avoid the turtle museum at all costs

by beerzuki

This place is terrible! The turtles are in tiny tanks often without anything to stand on to get out of the water. There is no foliage or any kind of no decoration in the tanks. They have far too many pig-nosed turtles, all wasting away in separate tanks with nothing to stimulate them. A comment is written that 'red eared sliders' need land to stand on, then all the 20 or so that are crammed into a tank get to stand on is ONE cube of plastic that only holds one turtle! I spoke to the owner and told her that it is appalling. She was not easy to get any sense out of. She is not doing well financially so with any luck this horrible place will shut down sooner rather than later.
