  • There is alot of accomodation in Jeonju. You can pay anything from 25000won to 500,000won. yeogwons are the best option as they are cheap and everywhere. Although some of them can been seedy especially when located in the love hotel districts of JunghwasanDong or Ajunglee...

many yeogwans have saunas and noraibangs

Jeonju Core Hotel: A 2 star Hotel with Five Star Prices

  • This hotel has a beautiful web page that give you the feeling that this is a five star property. When you get there, you will find it is barely two stars in reality.

The carpeting is old and worn, the rooms are small and the windows don't close completely. This hotel needs an overhaul. It surely is not worth the $90 they charged me. This was a negotiated corporate rate, not the $150/ night rack rate.

Nothing Unique except the price. It is much too high. They did have a small computer with high speed internet in the room.

The restaurant on the top floor is expensive and the quantity of food is small. The breakfast is $12 for fried eggs and a small weiner.

    Too many to list: Yeogwan

  • Yeogwans are abundunt throughout most cities in Korea. They are basically nothing more than a small room with a bed and a bathroom. Sometimes they have cable TV, refrigerators, complimentary water or canned coffee, etc. Once I even stayed in a place with a fishtank in the room.

Sometimes these places are called "love motels," and for good reason. Even though prostitution is illegal, there are a number of "call-girl" cards to be found in the motel areas of most cities. So sometimes you hear a little more than you want to in these places.

But the most important thing to me is that they are cheap and easy to find. All you have to do is look for a sign or symbol that looks like a steaming cup of coffee. The symbol is used both for legitimate public baths and motels so be sure you know what kind of place you're at before you walk in!

Also, most reputable places will have a sign out front that says "World Inn." This is a network of motels throughout korea that are approved by the government, or so I've been told. Check out their site for more info.
Most places I've stayed at are between 20,000 and 35,000 Korean won. On the weekends however, they usually jack up the rates by an extra 5,000 won.

Usually very clean. Only one time I had to deal with a couple of roaches, and that was in Seoul. Suprisingly enough, I paid more for that place than any other in Korea (35,000). If it wasn't for the time and the jetlag I would have left, but I was just too tired. So I squashed 'em and slept soundly after that.

By the way, most places will let you see the room first. I highly recommend this! The owners are usually very friendly and kind, and don't mind showing the place first before taking your money. In fact, most will not take your money till you see the room. If you don't like it, just leave and go to the next place, they really are everywhere.
