One Night in Incheon

by RedByron

I'm travelling to the UK in October on Korea Air and staying for 1 night at one of the airport hotels. I've never been to Korea so I would like to go to the nearest town (Incheon, I presume) go for soemthing to eat then go out for a few drinks. I'm travelling solo. Has anyone got any tips? How easy is it to get from the hotel to Incheon? I'll probably have to get a cab back, how much will that be? How much is a beer? Should I change money in Oz before I leave? Is the duty free cheap in Korea? Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

First, Korea has some of the best public transportation in the world. That said, depending on what time you are getting into the airport and how early in the morning your flight leaves, you don't have to limit yourself to just Incheon. You are only a 45 minute to an hour bus ride (or light rail) into Seoul. If you will be coming back to your hotel late (you didn't say which one), you will have to take a taxi. How much the taxi is depends on what time you head back and how far you are going. If you are all the way in the center of Seoul and it is 2am, it will be about 60,000 won (about $60 US). There is a late night surcharge. A beer in a bar, the last time I check, will run you about 3,000 won ($3 US). As far as duty free, it is as "cheap" as it is anywhere else. If you are getting in late, you should probably change some money in Oz as the airport exchange banks could be closed when you land. For some good tips, check my pages, or Dswede's pages, or Vita500's pages.

Thanks Old Dude. I'm staying at the Hyatt but don't arrive at the airport until 17:40 so I think I'd rather stay local and visit Incheon rather than Seoul. Have you got further details with Incheon in mind. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Well, I can't tell you much about Incheon that isn't much differnet from Seoul except that it is where Chinatown is located. Here is a good link for you find some things to do and more info about Incheon:

Travel Tips for Incheon

Bridges and more bridges

by victorwkf

During the Seoul - Incheon International Airport journey, you will be travelling along the famous Hangang River (Han River). One of the most striking things is that there are lots and lots of bridges across this river, and the bridges are of all shapes and sizes.

In fact, the Han River divides Seoul into the northern and southern part of the city. The area north of the river is where the commercial centre and most of the attractions in Seoul can be found. The southern area is more for residential purposes and less famous. However, the residential property prices of the south is more expensive because it is further away from North Korea and the Han River can act as a natural barrier in case of an invasion or war between North and South Korea.

A: "It has snowed before, but not usually. However, it can be bitterly cold in late January. The wind always comes from the north during the winters in Korea."
