Language Barrier
by GracesTrips
As duplicated on my Seoul page....
The Korean language uses 24 characters (or sounds). There are about 5 English consonants they do not have. Some are B, F, & V. But then, in the Korean language they have sounds that cannot be formed with our English consonants and vowels. So, example Jangsan - I would pronounce as jang (like bang, rang, sang, hang) and san (like ban, Dan, ran, tan). But it's actually more like jee-ang or gee-ang and za-eeng. It's very difficult to describe.
What I found helpful was to plan out where we were going and asked our concierge at the hotel to write down our destinations in Korean for us. So, if I needed to come back to our hotel, I had a piece of paper with "Chosun Hotel" (it's not the Westin Chosun) written down in Korean. I wanted to go to the "Haedong Yonggungsa Temple" , I had that written down in Korean.
Beomeosa Temple
by Carino
That was definitely our highlight of our Busan-Trip.
The temple was founded in 678 and seems to be far away from civilization even though it's very near.
As almost every temple in Korea, Beomeosa got mostly destroyed in 1592/93 during Japanese Invasion.
How to get there:
To get there take the subway to Beomeosa Station (sometimes it's spelled Pomosa). It's 2 1/2km to walk or take bus 90 if you are lazy....
Admission is only W500.
Korean Barbecue
by GracesTrips about Good Restaurant
Another evening, we venture out to dinner. We don't have a car so we decided to go right (east) this time on the road that runs along the Haeundae Beach. I can see on the second floor of a building what looks like a restaurant and I see people next to the window. We go up to the second floor and to our surprise, it looked rather interesting with the various booths in which you remove your shoes and sit in a seat without legs. The barbecue here was pretty good.
I'm not positive on the name of the restaurant but that's what I was able to read on the sign. See photo.
Guemjeonsanseong (Mountain Fortress)
by Ewingjr98
Guemjeonsanseong, or Guemjeon Mountain Fortress sits high above the city of Busan. This fortress was built in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Its walls are not as impressive as the older fortresses in the Seoul area, but it is still a great place to hike and picnic. There is a cable car from Geumgang Park that gives you a wonderful view of the city (and World Cup Stadium) and drops you off near the fortress, saving you a one hour walk.
If you're looking for excitement...wrong place.

We were only in Busan for a day on a cruise. We enjoyed strolling around the fish market, it is enormous and very colorful. People were not friendly though. We wandered around te little side streets in the downtown area and had a very nice seafood lunch cooked at our table. We rode a series of outdoor escalators up the hillside within the city and enjoyed the view. We also wandered around the shops in the underground area. Most of the goods for sale seemed of lesser quality. Just not a very exciting place but still a pleasant day. Nothing to do really but wander around.
