very pricey yet so ordinary

we stayed there for 5 nights, the room given to us was located at the annex building so we have to use 2 elevators to go to our room. No internet connection inside the room, (3 units of computers avail on the lobby for free) no coffee making facilities and I got the feeling that the beddings are not changed daily. potable water is free on the 3rd floor. nearest subway station is noksapyeong which is about 10-15 minute slightly uphill walk. no view outside the hotel. airport limousine stops right infront. no pool

Unique Quality: none

A night at the Crown

I was somewhat dissapointed with the Crown mainly because everything had an extra charge to it. The accomadations were fair considering the price of the room. They at least had a bellhop for the luggage. The Hamilton (which I also have a tip about) was much more hotel for the money. I admit I was not there long enough to check out the amenities, but just going through the list and prices made me not even try. For instance, they advertise free internet access, when in fact you will be charged 3000 won for each 15 minutes of use. This is robbery considering that if you go around the corner to the internet cafe, it will only cost you 1000 yen per hour to use their computers. They also did not have an in room DVD or VCR or pay per view movies if you got tired of watching Korean shows. Finally, it is not in a very good location to catch the airport limo. I will not stay here again.

Unique Quality: Nothing outstanding...they always have rooms. About on par with a US Ramada Inn.

Hotel Crown - Itaewon

The Crown Hotel is not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. In its day, it probably was, but it is a bit older, and a bit more rundown. That said, it is clean, cheap, central to many things, and has a lot of great features to it.

The hotel is just South of itaewon, within walking distance of two subway stops, Yonsan Army base, the War Memorial, and of course the dive known as Itaewon.

It is an odd hotel because from the outside it looks like a Holiday in, but on the inside it is victorian looking at times. The staff is very courteous, and the rooms while not too spacious are bigger than most places in this price range. The beds are comfy too. Plus for around $77 USD in a major city, the price is reasonable too.

Unique Quality: There is an office area, wedding hall, restaurant and parking garage, plus all the other normal hotel things.

I didn't see a pool though, my only real complaint,

Only an Ondol for me , please

Try requesting for a traditional korean room or an ondol when you stay in this hotel. From what I heard, they're much nicer than the western-styled rooms in this hotel.
The plus point of staying in this hotel is that it's located conveniently along the airport limousine bus route. Yes, this means that you can hop on a bus at the airport that'll take you directly there. The bus fare costs about 12,000won and the journey took about an hour.

Unique Quality: Sleeping on an Ondol will be quite an experience as you'll be sleeping on the floor on a soft mattress and a husk-filled pillow. Also, there's no visible heater in the room as the floor is heated. Trust me, you won't become an icicle in the night as the floor is deliciously warm. To top off the experience, they'll give a pretty silk quilt. I suppose you can also try this in the summer but the floor won't be heated.

This hotel is famed for its fire-heated "traditional " sauna . It cost about 15,000W per person to try this ( no discount for hotel guest ). I decided to give it a miss that there was no point steaming myself like a mandu ( Chinese bun ) one more time after the Osaek experience.
