Classic, what you would expect

This was a nice hotel, but design was a bit classy. The bed was the best I have ever slept in, I slept so well, but that could have been the 14 hour flight too. The restaurants were ok. The area was not the greatest, nothing was too close to the hotel.

Unique Quality: The Bed adn the Ritz Carlton reputation

right in "yeoksam dong"

large gym, opens very early
one problem in meetings in Seoul is traffic, and for some venues in the south of the han-river, this hotel is centrally located.
the building is rennovated from a local hotel(don't expect the ritz in madrid)

Unique Quality: nice piano bar in the basement
check out the barbershop in the basement

Quite the fine dining experience

by jburron about The Cesar Grill in Ritz Carlton Seoul/Kangnam

Let's jsut sum it up with: this is the FIRST 5-diamond restaurant in Korea. For 88,000 you can have a set of lobster, steak, salad....likely 350,000 for two if you have champagn and some wines. All in all, a great experience. Steak vs. lobster...who can choose?

urgent! - Ritz Carlton seoul and Shinsegae

by aversonne

Hi fellow vters,

i'm in korea now but having trouble communicating with the locals. i would like to find out the following, pls help!

1) any idea how far Ritz Carlton is from Shinsegae, and how much transportation cost roughly to travel from ritz carlton to shinsegae?i tried calling ritz, but they dun understand me!

2)is shinsegae opened on dec 25th and 26th, and if so, what are the opening hours like?

thanks a million!

The people at Ritz Carlton did not understand you? That surprises me since even the 3-star hotels usually have very well speaking English staff.

Stores will mostly be closed tomorrow (Christmas) because it is a recognized holiday in Korea. Businesses and stores will be open on the 26th just like any normal day.

Hi hi

thanks for answering my query. oh i haven't checked in at ritz yet, will be doing so tomorrow. I was referring to the locals whom i spoke with such as the bus driver and taxi drivers, when i was enquiring my way around..

I assume you mean the main store in Myeongdong so here you go:

If you take the subway, it will only cost about 1000 won and only take 20 minutes to get there from the Ritz.

By the way, there are Shinsegae stores all over Seoul. There is a closer one to you in the Panpo area and the subway stops right below it. It is part of the Central City Marriott shopping area near the huge Seoul Bus Terminal.

Christianity might be taking over Korea by storm but X-mas is still not important enough for shops to close down. Today is business as usual, except perhaps for the fact that places like Myeong-dong, Kangnam, etc. will be crowded like hell (imagine about twice the number of people compared to a regular weekend day), so not sure whether you really wanna go to these areas.

Shinsaegye closes at 8.00pm. Lotte and Hyundai (the two other main department store chains in Korea) close at 8.30pm.

As mentioned above, there is more than one Shinsaegye in Seoul and subway would be the easiest way to get there.

Hope it still helps!

Cheers,
Robert
